Crops of <strong>in</strong>terest• The area under the st<strong>on</strong>e <strong>fruits</strong> is 5515 ha <strong>in</strong>Lithuania• Plums, sweet and sour cherries are grown <strong>in</strong>commercial orchards, small farms and homegardens• Home gardens (3370 ha) cover the largestpart of st<strong>on</strong>e fruit area

The ma<strong>in</strong> objectives:• Evaluate the occurrence of bacterial canker<strong>on</strong> st<strong>on</strong>e <strong>fruits</strong> <strong>in</strong> orchards of the country• Collect samples of <strong>in</strong>jured plants• Isolate and characterize disease agents


Methods• Sampl<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>in</strong>jured material <strong>in</strong> st<strong>on</strong>e fruitorchards• Detecti<strong>on</strong> and isolati<strong>on</strong> of Pseudom<strong>on</strong>as<str<strong>on</strong>g>syr<strong>in</strong>gae</str<strong>on</strong>g> bacteria <strong>on</strong> nutrient dextrose andsucrose nutrient agar media• Identificati<strong>on</strong> of isolated stra<strong>in</strong>s accord<strong>in</strong>gto LOPAT and IF

Results• 66 stra<strong>in</strong>s were isolated from <strong>in</strong>jured st<strong>on</strong>efruit trees• 17 stra<strong>in</strong>s were positive <strong>in</strong> LOPAT tests• IF was positive with 2 stra<strong>in</strong>s from sour cherryand 8 stra<strong>in</strong>s from plum trees


Future work• Identify Pseudom<strong>on</strong>as <str<strong>on</strong>g>syr<strong>in</strong>gae</str<strong>on</strong>g> pathovars• Isolate pathogens from different parts of<strong>in</strong>jured plant• Accumulate collecti<strong>on</strong> of bacterial stra<strong>in</strong>s fromst<strong>on</strong>e fruit orchards located <strong>in</strong> the country
