8.0 RELEVANT BACKGROUND INFORMATION8.1.3 Aquatic Leisure Feasibility Study 2004Prepared by HM Leisure <strong>Plan</strong>ning, C Leisure and Prior + Cheney, this study identified anumber <strong>of</strong> aims and objectives derived from Council’s brief including:• To review existing and proposed public and private aquatic / leisure facilities inMarrickville and surrounding areas to determine whether there is a need for newfacilities in the Council area and, if a need is determined, to ascertain how theproposed facilities might impact on the nature and viability <strong>of</strong> existing facilities inthe Council areaFurther to determine the mix <strong>of</strong> aquatic, dry and social needs to be met andwhether these would be most effectively met through the upgrading orreplacement <strong>of</strong> the existing indoor Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre in <strong>Enmore</strong><strong>Park</strong> or through the provision <strong>of</strong> a new facility at another site.• To assess aquatic / leisure and wider recreational trends and communityexpectations as a guide to the level and nature <strong>of</strong> any demands for new aquatic /leisure facilities (and, as deemed appropriate, other recreational facilities) andhow these might best be responded to through the provision <strong>of</strong> specific facilities,programs and services.<strong>Enmore</strong> Pool was selected as the preferred location for Council’s major aquatic venueand the study recommended that the existing facilities should be replaced with newassets rather than being upgraded. Further recommendations included initial conceptlayout for the <strong>Enmore</strong> Pool development, which incorporate the following facilities:• Children’s play• Crèche / short term child care for users• Change facilities and toilets• Sauna, spa• Indoor water play• 25 metre, 8 lane swimming pool• 15 by 10 metre program pool• Café, social areas• Outdoor lawn, picnic and activity areas• Outdoor water play• Administration areas, and• <strong>Plan</strong>t room• Health and fitness gym81 Marrickville CouncilOctober 2012
