1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY1.1 BackgroundThe <strong>Enmore</strong> <strong>Park</strong> draft plan <strong>of</strong> management was commissioned and funded byMarrickville Council to review and update the previous plan <strong>of</strong> management document(1991) and consider and incorporate proposals for upgrading <strong>of</strong> the Annette KellermanAquatic Centre. The draft plan <strong>of</strong> management was undertaken by a consultancy teamled by <strong>Land</strong>scape Architectural consultants Environmental Partnership. The teamincluded specialist inputs from Mayne-Wilson and Associates, in preparation <strong>of</strong> aHistorical Overview and Conservation <strong>Management</strong> Strategy for the <strong>Park</strong>.This plan <strong>of</strong> management revokes and replaces all previous plans <strong>of</strong> management.Development <strong>of</strong> the Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre has run concurrently with thedraft plan <strong>of</strong> management and Masterplan study. A design scheme for the AquaticCentre was resolved in March 2009, and the finalisation <strong>of</strong> the draft PoM andMasterplan has incorporated and responded to this design.<strong>Enmore</strong> <strong>Park</strong> is Crown land (State owned), managed on behalf <strong>of</strong> the State byMarrickville Council as Reserve Trustee. The park is reserved for the purposes <strong>of</strong>public recreation and the plan <strong>of</strong> management, along with any proposed leases andlicences for use <strong>of</strong> the park, must be approved by the Minister administering the Crown<strong>Land</strong>s Act 1989.<strong>Enmore</strong> <strong>Park</strong> presently comprises an area <strong>of</strong> approximately 4 hectares <strong>of</strong> open space,which lies between the town centres <strong>of</strong> Newtown and Marrickville. The park is asignificant component <strong>of</strong> the local open space network, and is historically important asthe first park to be established in the Municipality <strong>of</strong> Marrickville. The park was originallycampaigned for by local residents, who demanded park provision in the context <strong>of</strong>growing residential development. The park was <strong>of</strong>ficially proclaimed in two sections, inMay 1886 and October 1893, and the original area (4ha) remains intact.The plan aims to provide a basis for guiding Council’s ongoing enhancement andmaintenance <strong>of</strong> this important open space and provide a suitable guide for day to dayand long term decision making.1.2 <strong>Land</strong> to which this plan appliesThis plan <strong>of</strong> management applies to <strong>Enmore</strong> <strong>Park</strong>, located on <strong>Enmore</strong> Road, <strong>Enmore</strong>.The park is bounded by <strong>Enmore</strong> Road to the west, Llewellyn Street to the north, BlackStreet to the east and Victoria Road to the south.1.3 ConsultationConsultation for the draft plan <strong>of</strong> management was coordinated separate <strong>of</strong> the planstudy team by KJA Consultants for Marrickville Council.This consultation was undertaken as part <strong>of</strong> an integrated programme addressingproposed upgrades at <strong>Enmore</strong> and Petersham <strong>Park</strong>s, and aiming to respond to bothpark specific and general open space / recreational factors that need to be consideredby Council.The community has also been involved in consultation regarding the detailed designand development application process for the Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centreredevelopment as well as the design <strong>of</strong> a new playspace and surrounds to the southeast corner <strong>of</strong> the park.The draft plan <strong>of</strong> management will also be subject to public exhibition in accordancewith Section 113, Crown <strong>Land</strong>s Act 1989 Crown <strong>Land</strong>s <strong>Management</strong> requirements priorto submission for approval by the Minister administering the Crown <strong>Land</strong>s Act 1989.5 Marrickville CouncilOctober 2012
