3.0 MANAGEMENT STRATEGIESNew <strong>Plan</strong>ting WorksNew tree planting is proposed in several locations in the park to support parkdesign objectives and interpretation themes. New planting locations mustconsider heritage values <strong>of</strong> park and safety / security factors such as:• potential impact <strong>of</strong> canopy on park lighting• proximity to pathways• maintaining open sight lines for passive surveillanceUnderstorey planting is to be limited to situations where pedestrian / park usersight lines will not be compromised including:• adjoining pool complex• to radial planting displays to rest <strong>of</strong> parkTo all cases understorey planting shall be <strong>of</strong> 750mm maximum height. Speciesshall be <strong>of</strong> as low recurrent water demand as feasible with constraints <strong>of</strong> speciesobjectives.Species ObjectivesTreesGenerally replacement and review <strong>of</strong> tree canopy shall reflect the dominantexisting fabric <strong>of</strong> Ficus species and Lophostemon confertus. The proposedimprovements adjoining the pool complex should complement this generalevergreen character.Shrubs and perennialsShrub planting will be limited to the interpretive radial beds in the west <strong>of</strong> thepark. Species should complement heritage style planting themes for example:• Agave attenuata• Cordyline species• Choisya ternata• Dracena species• Escallonia species• Juniperus chinesis• Michelia figo• Strelizia regina• Nandina domestica• Nandina nana• Raphiolepis indica• Raphiolepis delacourii• Viburnum tinus• Viburnum suspensumGroundcoversGroundcovers shall be robust and hardy <strong>of</strong> low water demand and consistentvisual appearance across the seasons.
