URBAN FORESTRY AUSTRALIA - TREE MANAGEMENT & CONSULTING ARBORICULTURISTSo Severed roots shall be treated with a suitable root growth hormonecontaining the active constituents Indol-3-yl-Butric Acid (IBA) andl-Naphthylacetic Acid to stimulate rapid regeneration of the root system.6.3.8 Tree Removalo Tree removal work shall be carried out by an experienced tree surgeonin accordance with the NSWWorkCover Code of Practice for theAmenity Tree Industry (1998).o Care shall be taken to avoid damage to other trees during the fellingoperation.o Stumps shall be grubbed-out where required using a mechanical stumpgrinder without damage to the root system of other trees. Where treesto be removed are in close proximity to trees to be retained,consideration should be given to cutting the stump close to ground leveland retaining the root crown intact.o Stumps within the TPZ of other trees to be retained should not beremoved using excavation equipment or similar.6.3.9 Landscaping within tree root zones.o The level of introduced planting media into any proposed landscapedareas within the Tree Protection Zone (TPZ), is not to be greaterthan 75mm depth, and be of a coarse, sandy material to avoiddevelopment of soil layers that may impede water infiltration.o Container size of proposed plants within the TPZ of trees should bedetermined prior to purchase of plants. This is to identify plantinglocations, and container size of plants at the time of planting.Otherwise, any proposed landscaping within the TPZ must consist oftubestock only. This is required to ensure that damage to tree rootsand excessive root loss or disturbance is avoided.o Mattocks and similar digging instruments must not be used within theTPZ of the trees. Planting holes should be dug carefully by hand witha garden trowel, or similar small tool.6.3.10 Stockpiling and location of site shedso As it is likely there will be materials brought onto the site, an areamust be nominated by the arboriculturist for the stockpiling ofmaterials and site sheds.o It is advised that any areas of proposed stockpiling over soil or treeroot zones must be covered with thick, coarse mulch, placement ofwooden pallets over the mulch, covering of the pallets with atarpaulin (or similar), and the placement of materials on top of thisdevice, would be acceptable.o Do not locate stockpile areas inside TPZ’s if possible.
