URBAN FORESTRY AUSTRALIA - TREE MANAGEMENT & CONSULTING ARBORICULTURISTS4.1.6 Trees 82 and 85These are two Lemon-scented Gums located well inside the footprint of theproposed aquatic centre. The retention of these trees would have placedconsiderable constraints on the building design, and on the retention of thePaperbarks facing Black Street.4.2 Impacts of Proposed Development on Trees to be Retained4.2.1 The potential impacts of the proposed development have been assessedusing the January 2009 concept plans for the new proposed AnnetteKellerman Aquatic Centre.4.2.2 Trees 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 21, 23, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31 are generally all well clear ofthe proposal. Tree protection devices would be required to many of thesetrees to ensure they are not affected by any development activities.4.2.3 Tree 5This is an over mature Ficus macrophylla (Moreton Bay Fig), which isdeclining in health and condition. The proposed excavation will beapproximately 11.5 metres from the tree, although batter of the cut andsubsequent landscaping will be about 2 metres closer to the tree. Althoughthis is an incursion into the 13.5 metre Tree Protection Zone, reduction ofthis setback by one third is acceptable and unlikely to adversely affect thetree. Given the poor health of the tree, it is likely it would be replaced in thefuture in any case.4.2.4 Tree 7This tree is a Ficus rubiginosa (Port Jackson Fig), also suffering decliningvigour and condition. This tree has a calculated optimal TPZ of 11 metresradius from the centre of the tree’s stem. The proposed excavation, includinga batter of approximately 2 metres beyond the cut, would be around 10metres from the tree. Provide appropriate protection measures aremaintained during the works, no adverse impact on the trees vigour isexpected. No pruning of the tree is required for the building clearance.Arboricultural Audit & Development Impact Assessment– Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre, Enmore ParkFebruary, 2009. 11 of 42
