3.0 MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES<strong>Management</strong> visions and policies will provide Council and those involvedin management and maintenance <strong>of</strong> the open space with a framework fordecision making and design and implementation <strong>of</strong> open spaceimprovements.3.1 VisionVisions encapsulate the overall planning and management directions to bepursued. The overall vision for <strong>Enmore</strong> <strong>Park</strong> was developed through a synthesis<strong>of</strong> values as identified in study team investigations, community consultation andthe 1991 plan <strong>of</strong> management.Overall Vision:<strong>Enmore</strong> <strong>Park</strong> is to be conserved as a landscape and recreationalsetting for its local historical and social significance, and improvedin its recreational and landscape amenity to better meet communityneeds3.2 Detailed <strong>Management</strong> StrategiesThe <strong>Management</strong> Strategy Framework provided in Part B Section 6.1.2 outlines acomprehensive series <strong>of</strong> strategies in response to the identified park values andthe range <strong>of</strong> planning and management issues that need to be addressed.The following management policies further detail the broad strategies asidentified in the management strategy framework as specific requirements andguidelines, and are listed within the open space management categories intowhich they will fall for day to day Council decision making, planning, andprogramming.3.2.1 HeritageGeneralThe park is to be conserved in recognition <strong>of</strong> the following statement <strong>of</strong>significance as provided in the Conservation <strong>Management</strong> Strategy (Mayne-Wilson and Associates, 2006):<strong>Enmore</strong> <strong>Park</strong> has local historical and social significance as the first public park tobe established in the Marrickville area, following a petition from local residents. Itis much used and esteemed by the local community, and its original layout andfabric is mostly intact. It is representative <strong>of</strong> many late Victorian era public parksin the Sydney region created under the impetus <strong>of</strong> the Public <strong>Park</strong>s Movement <strong>of</strong>the 1880s and embellished, possibly through funding under the UnemploymentRelief Works, in the early to mid 1930s.Policies will support conservation <strong>of</strong> its key fabric and community role whilstintegrating necessary improvements to design materials and management tosupport community use.Detailed Policies1.1 Aboriginal Cultural HeritageLimited information is available on Aboriginal cultural heritage specificallyrelevant to the <strong>Enmore</strong> <strong>Park</strong> site. As such it is suggested that oral history andgeneral research is undertaken to develop:• specific Aboriginal cultural heritage statement <strong>of</strong> significance• further investigate key potential themes for local area• identify potential interpretive themes / stories for integration into parkinterpretive strategies for both <strong>Enmore</strong> <strong>Park</strong> and the district generallyThe following detailed heritage policies are derived from the Conservation<strong>Management</strong> Strategy for <strong>Enmore</strong> <strong>Park</strong> prepared by Mayne-Wilson & Associates.Refer to the detailed report (Appendix B) for full recommendations.17 Marrickville CouncilOctober 2012
