Conservation Management StrategyEnmore Park9. Path from centre alongsouthern side of pool complex. This path was only constructedafter 1970, although itsproportions and finish suggestthat it was built at the same timeas the brick path which runs fromthe centre to Enmore Rd.The path was predated by a trackwhich came off the same point ofthe central rondel, but extendedslightly further north along BlackStreet. This earlier path may haveexisted from the time of the park’soriginal laid out; however, itappears that it was never ashighly used as the path whichextended from the centre to thecorner of Victoria Rd and BlackSt.Rating: LittlePath should be retained as itprovides an importantcontemporary link to and fromBlack Street and to the frontentry of the pool complex.Resurfacing or narrowing of thepath to highlight its lowerhistorical status could beconsidered, possibly to matchthe bitumen and concrete kerbfinish seen elsewhere in thepark. On the other hand, if thepool complex is enlarged, itmay need to be bear additionalpedestrian traffic, and thus maybe retained as it is.10. Path extending from EnmoreRoad to the corner of Llewellynand Black StreetsOne of the key paths in theoriginal design of the park. It hasseemingly retained its originalwidth although its likely originalgravel surface has been replacedby bitumen.Aerial photographic evidencesuggests that avenue plantingswere never attempted along thispath. The central planted island on thepath appears to not be an originalfeature.Likely re-asphalting in 1994.Rating: Moderate to HighPath should be retained as itprovides an important and wellusedpedestrian access.Concrete kerb edging andbitumen surface are appropriateto the period of pathformalisation in the 1930s and1940s and should bemaintained as existingMayne-Wilson & Associates23Conservation Landscape Architects
