Conservation Management StrategyEnmore ParkSeveral major works occurred in Enmore Park between 1951 and 1970, with the construction ofthe swimming complex, the use of a large triangular southern quadrant of the park for an as yetunknown facility [oral history should be able to ascertain this] and the construction of the childcare building in the park’s south-west corner. The path network by this date remained much thesame as that which existed prior to 1930; however, the path extending to the park’s centre alongthe southern side of the pool complex was not built by 1970.Figure H16 – Aerial photograph from 1970. Note that the footprint of the zig-zaging elements seen on the1942 aerial can still be seen in the south-western corner of the park at this date. (Some portion of themremain identifiable even on current aerials). Note also that much of the circular arrangement of planterbeds near the childcare facility seems to have been downgraded, although the outline of the curved bedsis just visible.Summary: The overall configuration of Enmore Park has remained reasonably constant throughits 120 year history. The size of the park has remained as it was proclaimed in 1886 and 1893 andmost of the early pathways which existed from at least the 1920s remain in the same alignmentstoday. Most of the garden improvement works carried out in the park have occurred along theEnmore Road side of the site. The eastern and northern sides of the park have historically beenopen and unplanted zones, likely to have been retained this way until after 1950 to allow for alarge active recreation space which was not criss-crossed by paths.Mayne-Wilson & Associates13Conservation Landscape Architects
