The circular configuration of island garden beds in theforeground and plantings along the path at right were made as part of the beautification works in the mid1930s. Some of these garden beds have been retained. These were constructed, partly using relief labour, between1937 and 1938, the gateways still remaining in their original configuration 6 .Figure H10 – c. late 1930s or early 1940s, showingthe recently built sandstone entry gateway on thecorner of Llewellyn Street and Enmore Road. The structure appears tohave been little changed since that time. However,a path that led to the eastern side of the shelterfrom within the park, which existed since at least1942, was removed after 1970. Low sandstonemarkers remain which identify where that pathwaymet the paved surrounds of the shelter.Source: Marrickville local history centre.6 Enmore Park Enhancement – Proposed Bandstand and Conservation Works 1995 (held by Marrickville Councilarchives)Mayne-Wilson & Associates10Conservation Landscape Architects
