On this account, <strong>the</strong> Prime M<strong>in</strong>ister aga<strong>in</strong> displayed his trademark impetuosity,preempt<strong>in</strong>g Gizenga’s plan to act a week later. Although Lumumba’s campaign <strong>in</strong> Kasai had an auspicious beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g, tak<strong>in</strong>gKalonji’s capital at Bakwanga and threaten<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Katangese border under <strong>the</strong> commandof Czechoslovakian advisers, it quickly fell apart.
