Theseare designed for protection frommagnetic and electrostaticinterference including nuclearelectro-magnetic pulse. The contactis crimp terminable to twistedshielded cable and is fully scoopproof(recessed pins) in MIL-DTL-38999 connectors. Theconcentric twinax contact isengineered to maintain shieldintegrity through a multi-pin circularconnector and does not requirecontact polarization within theinsert. Size 8 concentric twinaxcontacts were developed for use inMIL-STD-1553B Airborne multiplexdata bus applications. Ideal for thisapplication need is the highperformance Tri-Start connectorwith its fully scoop-proof feature ofrecessed pins.Shielded Coax ContactsAll popular series of Amphenol circular connectorsand many rectangular connectors are available with coax contacts. Diameters arestandardized in sizes 4, 8, 12 and 16 so that coaxial contacts may be interchangedwith power contacts in connector arrangements which include those sizes. PopularRG cable types and a variety of other commercial coaxial cables can be accommodated.See page 244 for coax contact performance data. Matched impedance size 12coax contacts are also available (see page 248). The use of coax contacts within aconnector, compared to the use of individual coaxial/shielded connectors, offersadvantages of savings in space and weight and no cross-mating difficulties. Coax andstandard contacts may be mixed within the connector to meet special signal needs. The connector itself offers further protection and environmental integrity through thegrommets and seals used, and coaxial junction is protected by the connectorouter shell.Concentric Twinax Contacts Size 8MIL-DTL-38999 Lanyard “Breakaway”Connector with Concentric TwinaxContacts, Qualified for MIL-STD-1760Amphenol ® Shielded Contactsprovide design versatility forelectrical circuitry. The cable must not be deformed while makingcuts.3. Flare outer braid, then strip cable dielectric as shown.B. 1. Assemble inner contact assembly over cable centerconductor and cable dielectric until inside bore ofbushing butts against cable dielectric.2. Cable center conductor must be visible through theinspection hole in the inner contact wire well.3. Crimp inner contact wire well using crimp tool listed intable.C. 1. Carefully slide outer contact assembly over innercontact assembly and under cable outer braid untilinner contact butts against insulator shoulder asillustrated. (Inner contact assembly will snap into thelocked position when fully assem bled inside the outercontact assembly.)2. Bring outer crimp ferrule forward over cable outerbraid as illustrated. (Continue to push the innercontact assembly fully forward while bringing theouter crimp ferrule into position.)3. Crimp outer crimp ferrule using crimp tool listed intable (.156 Max. over ferrule after crimping). Trimexcess braid ahead of crimp ferrule, if necessary.CONTACT INSERTION INTO CONNECTORUsing insertion tool (part number M81969/8-09 orM81969/14-04), insert contact assembly into rear connectorgrommet hole.
