types of membershipACTIVE | $840/yearOwners, corporate officers or their designated representatives of companies actively engaged in providing commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning servicesmay apply for Active Membership on behalf of the company. Active members shall be entitled to all benefits, rights and privileges of membershipincluding listing on the <strong>IKECA</strong> website as well as use of the <strong>IKECA</strong> Logo. Active Members are required to provide proofs of insurance for General Liability,Vehicle and Workers’ Comp, as well as certify at least one CECS per company. Active members receive one (1) vote at the Annual Membership meetingand all other balloting initiatives.SUPPLEMENTAL | $675/yearA subsidiary or branch office of an Active Member, which is also engaged in providing commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning services. Independentfranchisee operations shall not qualify for Supplemental Membership. Supplemental Members shall receive the same benefits and opportunities asActive Members, but shall not have voting rights or be entitled to hold elective office within the Association. Companies eligible for SupplementalMembership may not apply for Active Membership. Supplemental Members are required to provide proofs of insurance for General Liability, Vehicle andWorkers’ Comp, as well as certify at least one CECS per company.ASSOCIATE | $840/yearAn owner, corporate officer or his designated representative, who operates a company which provides products, equipment and/or services to kitchenexhaust cleaning companies, or a company which manufactures or supplies commercial kitchen equipment, may apply for Associate Membership onbehalf of the company. Such membership shall entitle the member to all rights and privileges of membership, but shall not entitle him to vote or holdelective office within the Association. Associate Members are not required to provide proofs of insurance and do not need certified staff.INTERNATIONAL | $840/yearEither Active or Supplemental members, located outside of North America, will be considered International Members and will be exempt from meeting<strong>IKECA</strong> certification requirements. Insurance requirements may be waived or altered, based on requirements of members in their own country. Membersin Canada and Mexico are required to meet all certification and insurance requirements as stated.INSTITUTIONAL | $445/yearComprising facility managers, restaurants, hospitals, universities, municipalities and other related organizations. No application fee applies. Thismember type is non-voting, but has access to all other member benefits.FIRE MARSHALS & AHJs | $50/yearIndividual who works in a municipality or for a government entity and has oversight on exhaust system inspections and regulations regarding installationand maintenance of exhaust systems. No application fee applies. This member type is nonvoting, but has access to all other member benefitsFRANCHISOR—Parent Company | $2,000/yearCompanies that establish a franchise to have local affiliates provide cleaning services of kitchen exhaust systems. A franchise is a license from theowner of a trademark or trade name permitting another to sell a product or service under that name or mark and under terms and conditions whichare mutually agreed. Franchisor Members are required to provide proofs of insurance for General Liability. Vehicle and Workers’ Comp, as well as certifyat least one CECS per company. They receive one (1) vote at the Annual Meeting and all other balloting initiatives.FRANCHISEE—Independent Private Business | $840/yearCompanies that establish a franchise with a Franchisor – Parent Company for the purpose of providing cleaning services of kitchen exhaust systemsunder an established identity or name. The franchisee undertakes to conduct a business or sell a product or service in accordance with methods andprocedures prescribed by the franchisor. Franchisee Members are required to provide proofs of insurance for General Liability. Vehicle and Workers’Comp, as well as certify at least one CECS per company. This member type is non-voting, but has access to all other member benefits.ALL MEMBERS SHALL AGREE TO UPHOLD THE FOLLOWING:• To, at all times, serve our clients with integrity, competence andobjectivity;• To perform all work for clients in accordance with lateststandards and practices published by <strong>IKECA</strong>;• To clean all readily accessible areas of the kitchen exhaustremoval system, utilizing positive cleaning methods andtechniques consistent with proactive product management;• To strive to comply with all applicable municipal, state andnational codes and guidelines during the course of businessengagement;• To ensure that safety of life and property remain an integraloperations effort;• To strive to comply with all applicable industry-relatedenvironmental standards, and practices with ongoing awarenessas continuing education advances the industry;member code of ethics• To operate with a good working knowledge of available productsand to specify, where applicable, those accepted within theindustry as efficient and effective;• To establish initial and ongoing documentation consistent withlocal, state and national guidelines regarding kitchen ventilationby-product management service schedules and scope;• To strive to continually educate consumers, neighboringindustries and authorities with respect to kitchen exhaustremoval systems;• To strive to operate morally, ethically and in good conscienceduring the course of maintaining kitchen exhaust removalsystems;• To obey local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations asthey pertain to our industry;• To remain within compliance of the policies, standards andpractices and by-laws of the International Kitchen ExhaustCleaning Association.PAGE 3


cecs certification examAll applicants for Active, Supplemental, Franchisor-ParentCompany, and Franchisee-Independent Private Businessmembership are required to have at least one employee takeand pass the CECS certification exam. Application to takethe exam is a required part of the membership application.Certification and Membership are separate. Certified staffare required to renew their certification annually.For complete information on the CECS exam,visit www.ikeca.orgEXAM FEES<strong>IKECA</strong> Member Company Representatives $ 325.00Non-<strong>IKECA</strong> Member Company Representatives $ 700.00Rush fee for all exams scheduled within 15 days of application $ 300.00Annual Certification Renewal $ 75.00Retakes (one in a calendar year) $ 100.00Fees are non-refundable.DURATION OF CERTIFICATIONUpon passing the <strong>IKECA</strong> exam, an individual shall be certifiedfor a period of one year. In order to be re-certified on a yearlybasis, the individual must earn a total of two (2) ContinuingEducation Units each year, and submit a re-certificationapplication along with the renewal fee. Individuals who donot earn the required CEUs, will be required to re-take theexamination in order to maintain certification.DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCTORED EXAMINATION<strong>IKECA</strong> administers a closed book, multiple-choice, writtenexamination. The length of the exam is 150 questions. Thetime provided to complete the exam is three (3) hours.EXAM SCORING <strong>AND</strong> THE PASS-FAIL SCOREThe pass-fail score for the <strong>IKECA</strong> exam is 70%. In other words,you must answer a minimum of 105 out of 150 questionscorrectly in order to pass the exam.SCORE REPORTWithin approximately 2-3 weeks of taking the test, you willreceive a “score report” by mail. The report will also indicatewhether you passed or failed the exam.
