All players will receive a team jersey, a flag belt, mid-season giveawayraffles, and <strong>the</strong> awards show at <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> season. Instruction willbe provided for skills, rules, and good sportsmanship. Games and practiceswill be held at Harvester <strong>Park</strong>. www.brparks.org<strong>Park</strong> Development<strong>Park</strong> Development News33Master Plan for <strong>Park</strong>s and Facilities, 2012 – 2018The <strong>Park</strong> <strong>District</strong> has recently completed its Master Plan for <strong>Park</strong>s and Facilities, 2012-2018. The primarypurpose of <strong>the</strong> Plan is to provide a clear, comprehensive direction for capital improvement projects based onpriority, service, resident demand, and available financing. Residents interested in reviewing this Master Planare invited to contact <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>District</strong> to arrange a copy for review. Two major initiatives from this Plan havebegun and are detailed below.Harvester <strong>Park</strong> RenovationsThe <strong>District</strong> anticipates closing 80% of <strong>the</strong> main playground from August through November 2012 for improvementsto <strong>the</strong> playground. Renovation work will add new play elements and facility amenities and replacecertain playground components. A new composite play area will be developed for younger elementary children,including water manipulation and play. The existing sand play area will retain a small portion of existingequipment and add several gross and fine motor skill enhancing active play elements. Additional climbing elementswill be incorporated into <strong>the</strong> existing boulder retaining walls. Several water mist features will be installed.A number of infrastructure and accessibility improvements will be made to surfacing, bridges,sidewalks, retaining walls, and utilities. Two new play elements will be installed in <strong>the</strong> older elementary childsection of <strong>the</strong> main playground, and <strong>the</strong> existing large composite play unit will be refurbished with new playpanels and climbing elements. A new covered gazebo will be placed in <strong>the</strong> vicinity of <strong>the</strong> basketball court, withnew backboards and goals for <strong>the</strong> court.<strong>Burr</strong> <strong>Ridge</strong> Community Center ExpansionThe <strong>District</strong> will add 4587 square feet of additional space to <strong>the</strong> existing facility. One large program room,2562 square feet, will be dividable into two separate, equal rooms. Interior and exterior finishes will match<strong>the</strong> existing facility. The lobby/waiting area will be expanded to accommodate this new program wing. Twosingle service washrooms will also be added. An existing storage room will be renovated into a small programroom, and a new larger storage room will be added. Commencement of construction activities is anticipatedin June, with project completion scheduled for early 2013. Blue shading denotes existing facility.
