NC GRADUATI ON REQUI REMENTSStudents who entered ninth grade with the 2006 – 2007 school year or later are required to meet the following state exit standards.A. Successfully complete a Graduation Project that includes a Research Paper, Portfolio, Product, and Presentation. Students should beginplanning before 12 th grade, work with a school advisor, identify an appropriate topic <strong>of</strong> personal interest for research, documentparent/guardian approval <strong>of</strong> topic and plan for completion, develop a timeline that adheres to the requirements for each component,demonstrate pr<strong>of</strong>icient skills, and adhere to ethical standards concerning plagiarism and copyright infringement for all components.B. Score pr<strong>of</strong>icient – Level III or above – on End-Of-<strong>Course</strong> assessments in Algebra I, Biology, Civics & Economics, English I, andU.S. History, score pr<strong>of</strong>icient on 10 th – grade writing assessment. ACADEMIC SCHOLARS PROGRAMRecognitionThe students who qualify for this special recognition• will be designated by the State Board <strong>of</strong> Education as North Carolina Academic Scholars.• will receive a seal <strong>of</strong> recognition attached to their diplomas.• may receive special recognition at graduation exercises and other community events.• may be considered for scholarships from the local and state business/industrial community.• may use this special recognition in applying to post-secondary institutions.
