At the same time 113 homes (28%)did not have a register <strong>for</strong> <strong>report</strong>ed cases <strong>of</strong> abuse.Moreover, staff in a number <strong>of</strong> homes (72%) did not know about the policy to addressincidents <strong>of</strong> abuse, and in 61% <strong>of</strong> the homes did not know whether there was a register to<strong>report</strong> cases <strong>of</strong> abuse. Likewise, in only 36% <strong>of</strong> the homes nationally (145 homes) did theresidents know about this register, meaning that in 259 homes the residents did not knowone <strong>of</strong> their basic rights in terms <strong>of</strong> being able to <strong>report</strong> incidents <strong>of</strong> abuse.Once an abuse has been <strong>report</strong>ed, it is equally concerning that staff in 31% <strong>of</strong> the homes(125) did not know that cases <strong>of</strong> abuse were <strong>report</strong>ed at management meetings.43 | D S D A u d i t o f R e s i d e n t i a l F a c i l i t i e s
