They’re also convenientfor walking to Shwedagon Paya and KandawgyiLake, but are not great for budgetaccommodation.Classique Inn BOUTIQUE HOTEL $$(Map p 48 ; %525 557; www.classique-inn.com; 53BGolden Valley Rd; r $40-60; aiW) Located in avilla in Yangon’s posh Golden Valley neighbourhood,this leafy, family-run place offerseight cosy, attractive rooms. The rates aren’texactly a steal, particularly for the rathertight ground-floor single rooms, and you’llneed taxis to get around town, but warmservice (including travel arrangements),good breakfast and a homey atmospheremake up for this.Savoy Hotel BOUTIQUE HOTEL $$$(Map p 48 ; %526 289; www.savoy-myanmar.com;129 Dhama Zedi Rd; s $90, d $95, ste $125-135; aiWs) Everything inside the Savoy is done sowell it’s easy to forgive the fact that it’s situatedon a busy street corner. Hallways, roomsand even the lavish bathrooms are stockedwith photographs, antiques, handicrafts andsculptures, and it takes little imagination tofeel as if you are some Raj-like king. Basicallywhat you get at this Myanmar-German jointventure is Strand Hotel standards withoutthe price tag.Alamanda Inn BOUTIQUE HOTEL $$$(Map p 48 ; %534 513; alamanda.inn@gmail.com;60B Shwe Taung Gyar Rd/Golden Valley Rd; r $60-65; ai) Yet another colonial-villa-turned-B&B in the quiet, leafy embassy district. TheFrench-run Alamanda hotel combines fivespacious and attractively decorated rooms,the most expensive of which is the suitein the old servants’ quarters with its ownprivate garden. The French-style breakfastgets good reports and there’s an excellent attachedFrench restaurant and bar (see p 62 ).Winner Inn BUDGET HOTEL $$(Map p 48 ; %535 205; www.winnerinnmyanmar.com; 42 Than Lwin Rd; r $20-30, ste $35; ai) Ifit weren’t for its somewhat remote location,the Winner would be one of our faves. Thislow-slung building is in a quiet, leafy suburband has spotless rooms with desks, andpictures on the walls.
