It’s obvious to any parent whoreads the news or is reallyconnected to their children’s lives,that drug and alcohol abuse anddependence are a major problem amongtoday’s adolescents and young adults.What may not be as obvious is what todo about it if you know or suspect thatyour child is caught up in it.Traditional approaches normally involveinpatient rehabilitation programs ofvarying lengths using strict adherence toa 12-step program. Group or individualoutpatient treatments use the 12-step model alone or as a follow up toinpatient rehab.Unfortunately, results from suchtraditional methods are frequentlydisappointing. Success rates (i.e., totalabstinence after one year) followinginpatient rehab treatment are as low as18%. Successful outpatient treatmentprograms have been highly variable,with few prevailing standards.However, a new team approachcombining a Board Certified physicianin Addiction Medicine, Dr. MichaelFrost, and Clinical Psychologist, W.
