Chapter 10: Open Space, Amenity & The Natural Environment10.2.1 New residential developmentThe Council will aim to protect and preserve mature and semi-mature treeswhere possible and will require new developments to be so designed as tointegrate existing trees into any new schemes. Sufficient distance should bemaintained between existing mature trees and new buildings.10.3 PUBLIC OPEN SPACETramore is currently under-providing in terms of public open space. While thereare many recreational and amenity facilities in Tramore, most are privatelyowned. The Council is to undertake the redevelopment of the boating lake into apublic park within the period of this Plan. This will provide a public amenityarea close to the town centre that can be enjoyed by the residents on a yearround base.10.3.1 Proposed Town ParkThe proposed Town Park shall be developed around the existing boating lakearea just off the promenade in Tramore. This area shall provide a significant areaof public open spaceand shall provide ayear roundrecreational andamenity area forBoating lake areaTramore. Theprovision of a TownPark not aloneprovides for aquality area of openspace but also allowsfor the developmentof a variety orartistic, cultural andrecreationalamenities such asplaygrounds, water features, concerts, markets , trade and exhibition stands etc.Proposals of the park include areas of active and passive open space and therewill be a strong emphasis on integration into the surrounding environmentthrough quality pedestrian linkages and high standards of lighting andlandscaping. This will compliment an area which is predominantly centeredaround the beach and the amusement park.70
