Chapter 8: Infrastructure8.5 WASTE MANAGEMENTThe <strong>Tramore</strong> Solid WasteLandfill Disposal Site closedat the end of 2005.This site is located on an areaof the backstrand just east of<strong>Tramore</strong> Town. Restorationand aftercare works, at anestimated cost in the regionof €7m have commenced onthe site and this shouldimprove the Environmentaland bathing quality standardsof the area. A flat rate wastecollection service is now in<strong>Tramore</strong> landfillplace throughout the <strong>County</strong>.There are three separate streams catering for refuse, recycling and compost. The<strong>Council</strong> is committed to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill and toencouraging the principle of reduce , reuse and recycle.OBJECTIVEC& D WasteManagement<strong>Plan</strong>s….Objective:WWO1: To ensure that Construction and Demolition Waste Management<strong>Plan</strong>s are prepared forIn line with the Department for the Environment, Heritage and <strong>Local</strong>Government’s document “Best Practice Guidelines on the Preparation of WasteManagement <strong>Plan</strong>s for Construction and Demolition Projects-July 2006” it issuggested that Project C&D Waste Management <strong>Plan</strong>s should be prepared for:• New residential developments of 10 houses or more;• New developments other than residential, including institutional,educational, health and other public facilities with an aggregated area inexcess of 1,250 meters squared;• Demotion/renovation/refurbishment projects generating in excess of 100meters cubed in volume of C&D waste;• Civil engineering projects producing in excess of 500 meters cubed ofwaste, excluding waste materials used for development works on site.POLICYC& D WasteReduce,reuse andrecyclePolicy:WM1: The <strong>Plan</strong>ning Authority shall implement the guidelines on Constructionand Demolition waste as prepared by the Department of the EnvironmentHeritage and <strong>Local</strong> Government –July 2006WM2: Promote the concept of reduce, reuse and recycle in an attempt to reducethe overall amount of waste currently being produced within the <strong>County</strong>.61
