Chapter 8: Infrastructure8.1 INFRASTRUCTUREThe provision of infrastructure is imperative for the continued sustainabledevelopment of <strong>Tramore</strong> town. The provision of additional infrastructure shouldbe compatible and concurrent with new construction so as to ensure that there isa systematic and planned approach to the provision of new services.POLICYProvision ofnew services..Policy:I1: Ensure that the timing and location of providing new services and utilitiesare compatible and concurrent with new construction.8.2 WATER SUPPLYThe <strong>Tramore</strong> water supply is supplied via two treatment plants namelyCarrigavantry (<strong>Tramore</strong>) and Adamstown (Kilmeaden). The Carrigavantrytreatment plant is supplied with raw water from impoundments at Ballyscanlonand Carrigavantry. The output of this scheme is limited by source capacity, thedry weather yield of which is assessed as 200, 000-250,000 g.p.d(gallons perday). Treatment at Carrigavantry is by rapid gravity filters, with P.H correction,chlorination and fluoridation of the water carried out.Treated water from the Carrigavantry plant is stored at Carrigavantry reservoirwith a capacity of 630m3. The higher levels of <strong>Tramore</strong> Town are served fromthis reservoir. The Tank Field reservoir supplies the lower areas of the town withthis reservoir being fed from the Carrigavantry reservoir. The balance of potablewater requirements, in excess of Carrigavantrys output is supplied from theAdamstown plant. The water supplied from Adamstown is stored atBallydrislane Reservoir and at Sporthouse ReservoirIt is anticipated that major improvement works of the East <strong>Waterford</strong> SupplyScheme will be undertaken in the near future. The project would see the outputof treated water from Adamstown double and would secure an adequate supplyof <strong>Tramore</strong>’s future needsPOLICY<strong>County</strong>StrategicWater Supplystudy ..Watersupply…The <strong>Council</strong> have also undertaken a water monitoring programme which extendsto the <strong>Tramore</strong> <strong>Area</strong>. This programme highlights any shortcomings or leakagesin the network and allows remedial work to be carried out promptly.Policy:WS1: To co-operate with <strong>Waterford</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong> on the development of the<strong>County</strong>'s Strategic Water Supply Study and liaise with IDA/ EnterpriseIreland in the provision of water for industrial purposesWS2: Ensure adequate supplies of water for residential and other developmentsover the life time of the plan.58
