Chapter 6: Tourism6.2 Activitiesrelocate the Race Course from its currentlocation to the outskirts of the town on theDumore East Road. The availability of theexisting site for redevelopment will bedependant on the completion of thisrelocation.<strong>Tramore</strong> offers a wide range of touristactivities to seasonal visitors. Thegreatest attraction to <strong>Tramore</strong> isundoubtedly the long sandy strandwhich is also used for water basedactivity sports such as surfing. <strong>Tramore</strong>Race Course offers an exceptionalrecreational facility within the town,with the <strong>Tramore</strong> Races attracting largenumbers during the summer race weekin August. There are proposals to<strong>Tramore</strong> also boasts its own 18 hole golf course andthere are plans to extend this course even furtherwith the addition of another 9 holes. <strong>Tramore</strong> alsohas a golf driving range, GAA and soccer playingpitches. There is a tennis club located on DoneraileTerrace off Priests Road and a children’s playgroundon lands to the west of Priests road. There is aproposal by the <strong>Council</strong> to provide for an additionalplay ground at Riverstown as illustrated in the Objectives Map. Given theincreasing population and the populationprojections for the life time of the <strong>Plan</strong>additional recreational facilities shall haveto be provided for. Additional play areasmay be required by the <strong>Council</strong> fromdevelopers who are proposing largeresidential schemes or instances whereCommunity Impacts are sought. Developersmay be required as part of their planningapplication to provide for some of theshortcomings in relation to community GAA Groundsfacilities in the area, especially if thegranting of the development shall further exacerbate those shortcomings.There is limited passive public open space in <strong>Tramore</strong> but it is hoped that thedevelopment of a town park around the boating area will address this deficiencyin the near future.47
