• Bathing water quality- Currently no waste water treatment plant (WWTP) exists for thetown – though the new WWTP will be operational in 2007;- Location of landfill.DunesThe plan identified the pressures on the sand dunes at <strong>Tramore</strong> and highlighted howefforts are underway to rectify the problem of coastal erosion. Sand fencing andsand ladders are now the subject of funding applications and these works can beundertaken in the immediate to medium term. The <strong>Council</strong> has given an undertakingto implement any findings that may arise from the Centre for Marine and CoastalResources Report (2006).FloodingThe <strong>Council</strong> is committed to undertaking a Flood Studies Report of the Garraunstream during the life time of this plan. The local authority will require applicationsfor planning permission for the development of areas exceeding 1Ha. to beaccompanied by a flood impact assessment and to provide proposals for the storageor attenuation of run-off discharges (including foul drains) to ensure thedevelopment does not increase the flood risk in the relevant catchment.Bathing water qualityThe <strong>Tramore</strong> Solid Waste Landfill Disposal Site closed at the end of 2005. This siteis located on an area of the backstrand just east of <strong>Tramore</strong> Town. Restoration andaftercare works, at an estimated cost in the region of €7m have commenced on thesite and this should improve the Environmental and bathing quality standards of thearea. All waste in the <strong>County</strong> is currently being diverted to <strong>County</strong> Carlow in linewith the Joint Waste Management <strong>Plan</strong> for the South East Region.Construction is currently underway for the first phased of a waste water treatmentplant at Riverstown to serve the <strong>Tramore</strong> <strong>Area</strong>. This plant will provide treatment ofeffluent to E.U Urban waste water treatment Directive Standards and EC andNational Bathing water quality standards. The design population of the plant is for ayear round population equivalent of 11,000 persons and the capability of treating upto 20,000 p.e for the peak summer period.All other environmental issues were dealt with in full in the SEA EnvironmentalReport and the <strong>Tramore</strong> <strong>Local</strong> <strong>Area</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>.2: Summary of how the Environmental Report and the submissions weretaken into accountNotice was placed in The Examiner newspaper on the 20 th December 2006 statingthat the Draft <strong>Tramore</strong> <strong>Local</strong> <strong>Area</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> and accompanying Environmental reportwere on display for a period of 6 weeks from Wednesday 20/12/06 to 09/02/07(both dates inclusive) at the following locations:-o <strong>Plan</strong>ning Department, Civic Offices, Dungarvan ,o <strong>Waterford</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong> Civic Offices, <strong>Tramore</strong>, Co. <strong>Waterford</strong>Public Library, <strong>Tramore</strong>,o <strong>Waterford</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong> website117
