Christy to the position of vice presidentof institutional advancement where shewill be responsible for all fundraisingactivities from private sources and collegealumni. The appointment was effectiveJanuary 1, <strong>2013</strong>.Prior to joining D’Youville, Christy wasthe executive director of the BISONScholarship Fund, Inc., a tuition assistanceprogram for low-income children (K-8thgrade) to attend a private school of choice,a position she held since 2001.She held the same position at the WesternNew York Grantmakers Association, whichis a membership association community ofphilanthropic individuals and organizations.Christy was also the regional marketingcoordinator for the Private Clients Group“As a person whois passionateabout education,it is truly anhonor to joinD’Youville <strong>College</strong>.”D’YOUVILLE PURCHASES LAND FORATHLETIC FIELDSD’Youville has purchased 3.5 acres of landfrom the City of Buffalo for use as athleticfields. Located near the foot of PorterAvenue, they will be the first athletic fieldsowned by the college and will serve boththe varsity softball and soccer teams. Thepurchase price was $400,000.The college will invest approximately $2.5million in bringing the fields, bordered byPorter Avenue, Jersey Street, Fourth Streetand the Niagara Thruway, up to playingstandards. While not contiguous with themain campus on Porter, it is close enoughfor students to walk to the fields to play orwatch the games. Plans call for the fields tobe ready by this fall.Included in the site is the property thatformerly was home to Ted’s Hot Dog Stand.“The college needs to have its own outdoorsoccer and softball fields instead of playingat other facilities,” said Sister Denise A.Roche, college president. Teams currentlyuse the fields at Riverside High School,but the Allegheny Mountain CollegiateConference, to which D’Youville belongs,expects conference colleges to have theirown fields.4
