1. Ensure That All Investigative Steps<br />
Are Documented<br />
Principle: To ensure that the permanent record will be complete,<br />
the investigator should review all documentation be<strong>for</strong>e<br />
releasing the scene.<br />
Procedure: The investigator should verify that the following have<br />
been addressed:<br />
A. Documentation of major events <strong>and</strong> time lines related to the<br />
incident.<br />
B. Personnel access log (see the sample in appendix A).<br />
C. Activity log (see the sample in appendix A).<br />
D. Review of interviews <strong>and</strong> events.<br />
E. Narrative description of the scene (see the sample in appendix A).<br />
F. Photo <strong>and</strong> video logs (see the sample in appendix A).<br />
G. Diagrams, sketches, <strong>and</strong> evidence mapping.<br />
H. Evidence recovery log (see the sample in appendix A).<br />
Summary: By accounting <strong>for</strong> all investigative steps prior to leaving<br />
the scene, the investigator ensures an accurate <strong>and</strong><br />
thorough representation of the scene <strong>for</strong> the permanent<br />
