Mizner Bark The Boca Raton Dog Park 751 Banyan Trail • Boca Raton, FL 33432 • http://www.ci.boca-raton.fl.us/rec/dogpark.shtm Hours: Daily (except Wednesday) 7:30am-Dusk • Wednesday Noon-Dusk The Dog Park is comprised of 6 acres located in the Countess de Hoernle Park GENERAL PARK INFORMATION • Dogs are allowed to run off-leash, double-gated entry • Park divided into 3 areas: Small dogs (under 20 lb) Medium dogs (20-50 lbs), Large dogs (over 50 lbs) • Doggie Bags for Waste – available throughout the park • Water Fountains • Wash Stations • Handicap Access • Trash Cans • No Smoking This Park has been designated a Non-Smoking Park PARK PERMIT INFORMATION Residents:City and Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District residents may obtain a Parking Permit at no charge at any one of the City’s Community Centers. Proof of residency and vehicle ownership required. (See page 47 for additional permit-related information regarding locations & proof of residency.) Non-resident: Annual Permit: $265 per vehicle Monthly Permit: $25 per month/per vehicle Be advised that this dog park is an unsupervised recreational area of the City of Boca Raton’s Recreation Services Department. The use of the dog park is at your own risk. Dog owners are responsible for, and liable with respect to, the actions of their dogs and any damage or injury to person or property caused by same. Dogs and/or their owners who violate these rules are subject to removal from the park and possible suspension of the right to utilize the park. The City of Boca Raton reserves the right to refuse entry to dogs and/or their owners into Mizner Bark for the reasons of health, safety, and prior offenses or for the comfort of all patrons and/or their pets. Patrons of the park who engage in activities (i.e., playing ball, using remote controlled toys, etc.) not related to the dog park’s purpose or who violate any other guideline are liable for any damage or injury to persons, dogs, or property GUIDELINES FOR USE • Be polite. Scoop up the poop! Bag stations and trashcans are available throughout the dog park. • Remain in the dog park and in full view of your dog at all times. • Leash your dog prior to entering and upon leaving the dog park. • Aggressive behavior must be addressed immediately. Either move your dog to another part of the park or leave the park. • For safety reasons, children must be at least 4 feet tall and supervised by an adult to use the dog park. Children must behave in a responsible manner: no running, chasing dogs, or petting dogs without the owner’s permission. • No more than two dogs per person on any one visit. • Dog toys, leashes, etc. left in the park will be disposed of at the end of the day. The City accepts no responsibility or liability for such items. • Female dogs in heat or sick dogs cannot be brought into the park. • Dogs should be under voice control (i.e., come when called). • Dogs must be vaccinated and display current licenses on their collars. • Puppies under four (4) months of age are prohibited. • Spayed/neutered animals are recommended. • No food, treats, alcoholic beverages (soft drinks and water are allowed), strollers, bicycles, or children’s toys are allowed in the dog park. This is a recreation park for dogs accompanied by their owners. • Playing catch (i.e., football, baseball, etc.) or using remote controlled toys, which can cause harm to the dogs in the park, is not allowed. • Choke, prong, pinch, and spike collars must be removed inside park area. • Professional dog trainers are not permitted to use this facility for training. • Persons in violation of these rules may be required to leave the dog park. • Use of this facility shall be for a dog park; any other use is prohibited. • All incidents and injuries must be reported to the Recreation Services Department by calling (561) 393-7810 weekdays; 8:00am – 5:00pm. Program fees are non-refundable. GENERAL INFORMATION Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is a distinctive part of the City’s parks system. The Center is surrounded by a rare remnant of coastal hammock, located on Boca Raton’s barrier island. A boardwalk provides access to this unique tropical forest where, from the 40-foot observation tower, you can view gumbo limbo trees, migrating birds, Indian middens, the ocean, and the Intracoastal Waterway. The Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility provides treatment and care for sick and injured sea turtles. An informal garden attracts butterflies throughout the year. Indoor displays feature wildlife indigenous to South Florida and a panorama of stained glass windows depicting the coastal island as it may have appeared in the 1500’s. Florida Atlantic university maintains an onsite marine biology research laboratory with a gallery above the lab allowing visitors to see projects conducted by university scientists. Visit the Gift Shop for educational and fun nature books, toys, puzzles, t-shirts, jewelry and much more. Please note our Outdoor Sea Tanks are currently under construction. Brand-new tanks are coming in early 2012! NATURE PROGRAM SCHEDULE The following list describes several of our programs. Programs, times, age limitations, and/or fees are subject to change. unless otherwise indicated, reservations and prepayment are required for all programs: 561-38-1542. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard and Discover. No refunds unless a program is cancelled by Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. Many of our programs are family oriented, and an adult must participate with children unless otherwise specified. A Member is someone with a paid Membership to Friends of Gumbo Limbo. Please visit www.gumbolimbo.org for additional information on programs and Membership. BEACH TREASURES All ages Limpets & topsnails are a few of the shells you can find on Florida’s beaches. Meet at the Center to learn about seashells and the animals that make them. Caravan to Red Reef Beach Park and search for ocean treasures. An adult must sign-up and participate with children. SEA TURTLE DAY – HEALTHY BEACHES START WITH YOU! Join us at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center for our annual Sea Turtle Day! Celebrate sea turtles, marine life, and our oceans as well as our terrestrial species and habitats in a fun-filled family day of environmental education. All species and habitats are interconnected; learn what conservation actions you can take in your daily life to help make our world a better, cleaner place to live. Ages 7-11 Have some family fun exploring the colors of nature! Think of your favorite place outside, and learn how to bring the beauty inside! Learn about using natural dyes, flower pressing, and other fun crafting techniques. Make a card, keychain, or magnet with natural materials and bring the colors of nature home with you! Adults do not have to pay unless they want to do their own craft. Adults must sign-in children, but do not have to stay. DINNER DETECTIVES Ages 7-11 Become a dissection detective and learn what an owl likes to eat. Have some fun using dissection tools to investigate some edible items as well! DIGGING INTO FOSSILS Ages 7-11 What is a fossil? How is it made? What kind of creature leaves behind the best ones? Visit Gumbo Limbo’s own mounds of fossils, then make your own mold with sharks teeth and shells to take home! Adults must sign-in children, but do not have to stay. Lots of animals are laying eggs. Look at the many egg shapes and sizes and learn about the animals that lay them. Then join us down in the butterfly garden to collect your own eggs.
