This Park has been designated a Non-Smoking Park SWIM LESSONS Registration for all 2012 swim lessons will begin on 12/12/11. Patrons may register on-line (https://webtrac.ci.boca-raton.fl.us), in person, or over the phone at either facility. Classes to choose from are on Saturday mornings for 8 weeks (8 classes) or Wednesday & Friday afternoons for 4 weeks (8 classes). Classes are not made up or refunded due to weather. Parent & Child Aquatics (Ages 6 months to under 4 years) • Class size is limited to 10 parents & 10 children, and parents are in the water with their child. • The focus of this class is to provide guidance to parents on what skills to practice with children until children are skilled or old enough to participate in a preschool class. • Children will explore submerging their mouth, nose, and eyes, and gliding on the their front and back with assistance. Preschool Aquatics – Level 1 (ages 4 to under 6) • Class size is limited to 4 children. Parents are not in the water. • This class is for beginners, ages 4 and 5, and focuses on submerging the mouth, nose, and eyes, blowing bubbles through the mouth and nose, bobbing, and retrieving submerged objects. • Leg action and arm action on the front and back are introduced. Preschool Aquatics – Level 2 (ages 4 to under 6) • Class size is limited to 6 children, and is for children with swimming experience, ages 4 and 5. • Children should be familiar with the front crawl and back stroke, and floating on their front and back. • Combined arm and leg actions on the front and back are practiced. • Treading water using arms and legs is introduced. Level 1 – Introduction to Water Skills (ages 6 and up) • Class size is limited to 6 children, and is for beginners, ages 6 and up. • Children learn to submerge the face, bob, retrieve submerged objects, and float on their front and back. • The focus of this class is on arm and leg action on the front and back. Level 2 – Fundamental Aquatic Skills (ages 6 and up) • Class size is limited to 6 children, and is for children with swimming experience, ages 6 and up. • Children should be familiar with both the front crawl and back stroke. These strokes will be reinforced. • Treading water using arms and legs is introduced. • Floating and gliding on the front and back is practiced. HIGH 5 BASKETBALL Ages 8-22 Sponsored by BOCA HOOPS www.high5basketball.org The program consists of one-half hour of warm-up and skill drills, followed by a one-half hour game, every week. Every team has an assigned coach and each child is assigned a “B-Ball Buddy” to individually encourage and assist the child as needed throughout the drills and game. All participating children receive an award after each weekly game. HIGH 5 is played on Sunday afternoons at the Sugar Sand Park Field House. Special Populations / Special Needs Level 3 – Stroke Development (ages 6 and up) • Class size is limited to 6 students, and is for children comfortable with Level 2 skills. • Front crawl, back stroke, breathing to the side, and treading water are reinforced. • Scissor, butterfly, and breaststroke kicks, are introduced. Elementary backstroke is introduced. Level 4 – Stroke Improvement (ages 6 and up) • Class size is limited to 6 students, and is for children comfortable with Level 3 skills. • Breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, swimming underwater, and headfirst entries are introduced. • All 4 competitive strokes are practiced in this level. Level 5 – Stroke Refinement (ages 6 and up) • Class size is limited to 10 students, and is for children comfortable with Level 4 skills. • All 4 competitive strokes are reinforced. The yardage swam is increased. • Flip turns in the front crawl and backstroke are introduced. Adults (ages 18 and up) • Class size is limited to 6 students, and is for swimmers of any skill level. From beginners to experienced swimmers, all are welcome. • Adults will be taught basic swimming skills leading up to and including the crawl stroke with rhythmic breathing, back floating, back crawl, and flip-turns. Adaptive Aquatics – Swim Lessons for Individual with Special Needs (ages 4 and up) • Adaptive Aquatics is a one-on-one swim program for children and adults with special needs. • This program is designed to help teach participants how to become more comfortable in the water while learning essential swimming techniques in a fun environment. • Each session consists of eight 30-minutes lessons, to be scheduled once per week for eight weeks. The City of Boca Raton Recreation Services Department is committed to supporting and complying with the American with Disabilities Act. All city facilities are accessible to all populations and those with special needs. If any participant requires specialized accommodations for our programs, please contact our staff at the appropriate facility so they may arrange for you to have a successful recreational experience. TOPSoccer Ages 5-19 Sponsored by SABR (Soccer Association of Boca Raton) www.sabrsoccer.net TOPSoccer is an outreach program of SABR and the u.S. Youth Soccer Association for young athletes with disabilities. The community-based program is a modified version of the game, designed to provide opportunities for special needs athletes to enjoy the game. Each player has a volunteer “Soccer Buddy” to assist them at practices and games. TOPSoccer is played Saturday afternoons at university Woodlands Park.
