RECREATIONAL SWIM TEAM (MANTAS)<br />

• Mandatory parent meeting!!!! A Mandatory “kick <strong>of</strong>f” parent meeting<br />

will be held at Sugar Sand Park <strong>The</strong>ater on April 3, 2012 from 7:00<br />

pm – 8:30 pm. Please only send one parent or guardian per family.<br />

Registration is on a first-come first-serve basis within the following parameters:<br />

• Resident registration: March 1st thru March 31st. Registration fee is<br />

$150. A separate check made out to <strong>Boca</strong> Mantas in the amount <strong>of</strong> $10 per<br />

swimmer. (This helps covers home meets and the awards banquet).<br />

• Non-Resident registration: April 1st thru April 30th. Registration fee is<br />

$187.50. A separate check made out to <strong>Boca</strong> Mantas in the amount <strong>of</strong> $10<br />

per swimmer. (This helps covers home meets and the awards banquet).<br />

• Registration and tryouts times are Tuesdays – Fridays, 10am - 6:30pm.<br />

Mondays and Saturdays 10am – 5:30 pm and Sunday’s noon – 5:30pm.<br />

• When its avail. the 2012 Swimmer Application and the Mantas Information<br />

Booklet will be available on the city website @ https://webtrac.<br />

ci.boca-raton.fl.us. Please fill out one Swimmer Application per child, and<br />

print clear enough to be read. Bring the Swimmer Application(s) in during<br />

the registration period.<br />

• For returning Mantas, a swim test is not required, but the child must still<br />

be registered during the dates listed above. This registration may be done<br />

over the phone (561-393-7851) with a credit card.<br />

• For children new to Mantas, a swim test must be taken. All participants<br />

must swim one length <strong>of</strong> freestyle breathing to the side. Arms must come<br />

out <strong>of</strong> the water while performing the swim test. No doggie paddle will be<br />

allowed. <strong>The</strong> child must be comfortable in the water. <strong>The</strong> child must not<br />

stop until the length is finished.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> swim team is for children ages 5 to 18. <strong>The</strong> age <strong>of</strong> the child is determined<br />

by how old the child is as <strong>of</strong> May 2, 2012.<br />

• May practice times are;<br />

Mondays and Wednesdays Tuesdays and Thursdays<br />

Ages 5 & 6 7pm - 7:45pm Ages 5 & 6 6pm - 6:45pm<br />

Ages 7-10 7pm – 8pm Ages 7-10 6pm – 7pm<br />

Ages 11-18 8pm – 9pm Ages 11-18 7pm – 8pm<br />

Friday’s all age groups practice from 7-8pm<br />

• June and July practice times are:<br />

Mondays through Thursdays;<br />

Ages 5 & 6 7pm-7:45pm<br />

Ages 7 – 10 7pm – 8pm<br />

Ages 11 – 18 8pm-9pm<br />

Friday’s all age groups practice from 7-8pm<br />

• Meet schedule will not be out until the May Coaches meeting.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> season runs from May 1st to July 29th.<br />

AGE GROUP FITNESS SWIM TEAM<br />

For children ages 7 to 14 who are able to swim 25 yards <strong>of</strong> crawl stroke and<br />

are comfortable in the water. Program runs until the end <strong>of</strong> April, when<br />

the Mantas swim team begins.<br />

ADAPTIVE AQUATICS<br />

SWIM LESSONS FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS<br />

Adaptive Aquatics is a one-on-one swim program for children and adults<br />

with special needs.<br />

DEEP WATER FITNESS CLASS<br />

Deep water classes provide an opportunity to receive a cardiovascular<br />

workout without impact on the joints. Water buoyancy supports your<br />

weight, and moving through the water provides resistance, strengthening<br />

the muscles. On the 1st Monday <strong>of</strong> each month class will be held at the<br />

Swim Center.<br />

MORNING MASTERS<br />

Enjoy the physical and social benefits <strong>of</strong> friendly competition. Various<br />

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARDING COURSE<br />

This course will prepare the participant to recognize and cope effectively<br />

with the challenges that face lifeguards today. First Aid, CPR/AED, textbooks,<br />

and pocket mask are included. Candidates must pass the preliminary<br />

swim test <strong>of</strong> 300 yards. Course length is approximately 32 hours.<br />

Class size is 3-10 students.<br />

VIDEO SWIM PROGRAM<br />

For those who dare to watch their own swimming technique, staff will film,<br />

edit, and format patrons’ swimming onto a DVD. Stroke analysis will also<br />

be provided by a qualified swim instructor. Day and time will be scheduled<br />

at the time <strong>of</strong> registration.<br />
