3.7 Match Gun<br />

An improvised weapon using safety match heads as the propellant and a metal object as the projectile.<br />

Lethal range is about 40 yards (36 meters).<br />

Materials Required<br />

Metal pipe 24 inches (61 cm) long and 3/8 inch (1 cm) in diameter (nominal size) <strong>or</strong> its equivalent,<br />

threaded on one end<br />

End cap to fit pipe<br />

Safety matches – 3 books of 20 matches each<br />

Wood – 28 inches x 4 inches x 1 inch (70 cm x 10 cm x 2.5 cm)<br />

Toy caps <strong>or</strong> safety fuse <strong>or</strong> “Strike-anywhere” matches (2)<br />

Electrical tape <strong>or</strong> string<br />

Metal strap, about 4 inches x 1/4 inch x 3/16 inch (10 cm x 6 mm x 4.5 mm)<br />

2 rags, about 1 in x 12 inches and 1 inch x 3 inches (2-1/2 cm x 30 cm and 2-1/2 cm x 8 cm)<br />

Wood screws<br />

Elastic bands<br />

Metal object (steel rod, bolt with head cut off, etc.), approximately 7/16 inch (11 mm) in diameter,<br />

and 7/16 inch (11 mm) long if iron <strong>or</strong> steel, 1-1/4 inch (31 mm) long if aluminum, 5/16 inch (8 mm)<br />

long if lead<br />

Metal disk 1 inch (2-1/2 cm) in diameter and 1/16 inch (1-1/2 mm) thick
