Sunset Valley <strong>Elementary</strong> <strong>School</strong> Campus Advisory Council Meeting 10/4/12 Meeting called to order at 3:10 In attendance – Crystal Young, Robin Sanchez, Gilbert Sandoval, Joel Espinoza, Kristen Lucas, Holly Brewster, Alice Duffy, Hillary MacDonald, Leslie Jansen, Alba Ponti, Kim Placker, Ana Arrien, Mary Parra, Jennifer Stephens, Emily Bush Public Comments (None) Minutes from September Approved as written Committee Reports ELA/SStudies: Veteran’s Day planning underway. PTA wants to help. Heather Salaz -­‐ PTA contact. Math: Science: Family Focus: PTA: Working to align instruction. Math night coming up in November. Focus for upcoming month is POD (Problem of the Day). Faculty meeting will be held for Prof. Dev. of POD and what it should look like. Jennifer Stephens and Megan Kinback are points of contacts for math. A few teachers from the science committee were able to attend Science Fair training. Faculty will have Science Fair training during the Faculty meeting on the 15 th . Volunteer teachers to buddy up with students from (3 rd -­‐ 5 th ) to support project. 3 rd – 5 th will have Science Fair in January; K-­‐2 will have science Fair in March. Catch Night will be held before Spring Break. More info to come. Update, Enrollment: 56 last year and 127 current. PTA received award for enrollment. New goal: 224 members. Still hoping for 100% participation from staff. Grossed over $1,200 from Family Dance, had great turnout/great response. Unfinished Business: Sharing and Celebrations: Office Max has donated school supplies to SSV in part to Crystal Young winning a prize from Office Max.


SSV received $20,000 grant for tutoring in Reading/Math from the office at Baker Center through TEA’s Student Success Initiative. Calendar Review: Operating Procedures: CIP Review: Safety and Concerns: Facility Review: Approved. Review all edits from Bylaws. Reviewed all current changes. Still waiting for approval from downtown in order that CAC may officially approve the CIP. Discussed ways to police ourselves. Solution was to have committees report on progress of CIP goals. SPED meets regularly, therefore discussion of CIP will be included into those meetings. 311 has been notified of issues. Bush issue will be taken care of. Waiting on curb cuts. Bond project proposed. Updates to the current buildings included in bond. New Business: Next Agenda: Review of Reach program, SLO, and Basket of Measures for new members of CAC. CIP Review and Safety Update.
