Chapter 1010 SUPERPHOSPHATES10.1 General informationSuperphosphates, i.e. single superphosphate (SSP) and triple superphosphate (TSP), account forone quarter of the world’s phosphate fertiliser production. Superphosphates are defined by thepercentage of phosphorus as P 2 O 5 and are used as straight fertilisers (marketable products), butare also a feedstock for multinutrient fertilisers. Table 10.1 provides a general overview ofsuperphosphates. SSP and TSP are mainly used for downstream production of PK and NPKfertiliser.Content %Worldconsumption1999/2000P 2 O 5 CaSO 4MtonnesP 2 O 5Raw materialsPhosphate rock and …..Normal SSP 16 x – 24 50 – 38 H 2 SO 46.1Concentrated SSP 25 – 37 37 – 15H 2 SO 4 and H 3 PO 4TSP 38 x – 48 15 – 5 2.2 H 3 PO 4x According to EC Directive 2003/2003, SSP must contain at least 16 % soluble P 2 O 5 inneutral ammonium citrate, of which at least 93 % is soluble in water.
