HEARTS OF IRON DARKEST HOURsides that are at war. Anyother agreement will result inonly a partial peace, with theextent of the peace beingdetermined by whether one ofthe nations involved in thenegotiations was an allianceleader or whether neither ofthem was. Before you offerterms or decide to accept anoffer that is sent to you, beabsolutely certain that youknow what you are agreeing toand who you’re agreeing to itwith, or you could be in for avery big and potentially nastysurprise! When an alliance leader isinvolved in a peacenegotiation it can arrange forone or more of its alliancemembers to be the beneficiaryof any land being exchanged(they must currently occupy itfor this to be possible), but itcan also force an alliancemember to concede territories,if those provinces areoccupied by the enemy. Analliance leader cannot, however, bind an alliancemember to any special peaceterms such as forceddisarmament, military access,or forcing them to become apuppet of the enemy.Annexation - the worstpossible outcome of war fora nation - is not negotiatedusing the “sue for peace”option. It is a separateoption and is only bindingon the nation that isannexed. If you are pursuing a whitepeace, then you can simplyclick on the white peace optionto send the offer. If yourenemy agrees to the proposal, all nations included in thepeace will sign the truce and apeace treaty will exist betweenyou for the next five years. If anation occupies any provincesthat are owned by a nationthat is part of that peacetreaty, these are returned totheir rightful owner, butprovinces owned by a nationthat is still at war will remainoccupied. There will be nofurther compensation receivedby either side. I should warnyou that a white peace doesnot preclude a resumption ofhostilities. War may bedeclared again by any nationat any time, though with anadded penalty for breaking thepeace treaty, so this should beregarded as something of atenuous arrangement at best.If you wish either to beg forpeace or insist on demands, asomewhat different interfaceappears where you will set theterms to which you are willingto agree. You will see anumeric evaluation of yourcurrent warscore whichreflects victories, defeats, conquered provinces andprovinces lost to the enemy, and a variety of possiblepeace conditions. Severalspecial terms may only beincluded in the negotiations ifyou are insisting on demands, and those terms will apply onlyto the nation with whom youare negotiating, not to anynations that are part of thatalliance. However, the overallinterface will be generally thesame in both cases. Eachpeace term has a “value” andas you assemble your offer inthe center area of theinterface, these are tallied atthe bottom. You can make multipledemands and can mixvarious types of terms toassemble your final offer. The possible peaceconditions include:• Territory: You may specifyterritory whose ownership is tochange hands if the peace isagreed upon. If you areinsisting on terms, yournational and your claimedprovinces that currentlybelongs to the enemy areautomatically added to the listof provinces you demand (butyou will be able to removethem if you wish). If you are analliance leader, you may alsodemand provinces that arecurrently occupied by yourallies and ownership wouldtransfer to your ally in thatinstance, and the recipient ofeach province that youdemand is clearly indicated. Ifyou are begging for peace, you may also offer anyprovinces that you own, whether or not they areoccupied by the enemy, and ifthe enemy considers one ofyour provinces as a core orclaim for him, your provincewill be automatically added tothe list of offered provinces(but you will be able to removeit and offer a differentproposal). Note that alloccupied provinces notincluded in the treaty willrevert to their rightful ownerswhen the treaty is signed.• Forced Disarmament: Thisoption may only be demandedby a victor and cannot offered85
