HEARTS OF IRON DARKEST HOURThe Main MenuTo begin playing DarkestHour, click Start > Programs> Darkest Hour > DarkestHour and after a moment ortwo, the opening movie willplay. You will then see a statusscreen displaying the progressof the main game engine’sloading process (with a nicerandom quote to keep youentertained!), and once thishas finished, you will bepresented with the LaunchMenu. This gives you theoptions to start a single playergame, start a multiplayergame, play the tutorials, viewthe game credits, or exit thegame.Single Player GamesMost often, you will probablybe playing a single playergame, pitting your skillsagainst the computer. Click“Single Player” on the LaunchMenu and the main menuscreen will appear.Selecting a Scenario orSave Game When starting anew game, you will select froma list of available grandcampaign games or battlescenarios. Grand campaigngames use the entire globeand allow you to play anyavailable nation in the world ina specific timeframe.Battle scenarios are usuallymore limited in scope,focusing on short, specificengagements and oftenrestricting the nations that maybe selected and even the partof the globe that can be used.Many of these scenariosdisable some of the game’smore complex interfaces,providing the player with onlyscripted forces, replacements,and resources with which toaccomplish their goals, andusually have special victory24
