After the probes were m servICe., the sootblower<br />

nearest each probe was opernted. It<br />

was found that sootblower operatIon<br />

would not damage the probes The O2 system<br />

could now be momtored to evaluate<br />

the performance and longevity of the<br />

probes.<br />

The bottom line. Imtlal tnals on Unn<br />

7's hIgh-temperature 02 system show that<br />

the probes have good potential for apphca-<br />

HI-TEMP CARBON<br />

AND OXYGEN SENSORS,<br />

ELECTRONICS<br />

AND ACCESSORIES.<br />

tJon to utility bOIlers The knowledge<br />

gamed from these tnals was put to good<br />

advantage when a hIgh-temperature 02<br />

system for Unit 8 was mstalled. mcludmg<br />

four probes m the pendant reheat area of<br />

the convection pass. After continuous<br />

operation for over a year, none of Unlt 8's<br />

probes have faded.<br />

Results to date have shown differences<br />

of O 2 measurement taken at the economizer<br />

of 0 4% to 2.5% when compared to the<br />

hIgh-temperature probe readmgs Probe<br />

performance has been so successful that<br />

the economIzer O2 system Will be phased<br />

out at Nipsco Also, operator confidence 10<br />

02 measurement of flue gas has been<br />
