EXECUTIVE SUMMARY PRELIMINARY AUDIT REPORT IMPROVING COMBUSTION EFFICIENCY BURSHTYN POWER PLANT (Oct. 8 Thru Oct. 11, 1994) The preliminary audit activities consist of a reconnaissance visit made to the plant to meet with key plant personnel, to establish local contacts, to collect information regarding boilers, combustion process and controls, fuel management and general plant operations. The energy saving program consists of providing instrumentation equipment to improve combustion efficiency of the boilers, as a first step towards the life extension of the plant. The implementation of this program is in two phases. During the first phase in order to demonstrate the improvement of boiler's combustion efficiency, the instruments to be installed are listed under Low-Cost, No-Cost Short Term Recommendations and are related to one boiler except as noted. Based on operation results the program may be expanded to the balance of the boilers in the plant. Implementation of the second phase is addressed under the Medium to Long-Term Recommendations. Based on the preliminary survey of this plant the following are Low-Cost, No-Cost Short Term and Medium and Long Term recommendations: Low-Cost. No-Cost Short Term Recommendations 1) One (1) Portable combustion analyzer (with spare cells) with probes 2) One (1) Laptop computer with software 3) One (1) Heat spy (portable infrared temperature monitor) 4) One (1) Portable multimeter ac power analyzer 5) One (1) On-line calorimeter for natural gas (Kcal/Nm 3 , Wobbe index) 6) One (1) Mazut flowmeter for 159 mm diameter supply line 7) One (1) Mazut flowmeter for 60 mm diameter return line 8) Eight (8) Mazut tank ultrasonic level transmitters 5906-02JPAR.5/1219194 1
