IPA 2009 Multi-beneficiary StatisticalCooperation Programme3.7 Agriculture, hunting and forestry (NACE Rev.1: A)3.7.1 IntroductionDuring the last decade, agriculture has represented between a fifth and a third of totalvalue added. The significance of this sector is also proved by the fact that more thanhalf of the population (55 percent) resides in rural areas, accounting for 51.4 percentof the households.Corporations, unincorporated enterprises (self-employed), individual farmers and insmall part NPISH as well are engaged in this production. Individual farmers arefarmers who do not need to register.3.7.2 Data sources and methodsFor calculation of production, intermediate consumption and value added forAgriculture, INSTAT uses information provided by Statistics Department at theMinistry of Agriculture Food and Consumers’ Protection, and Directorate ofFisheries Policy in the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Water Administration.This calculation is made by INSTAT, Agriculture Department.The methodology for the agricultural surveys, which are under the responsibility ofMinistry of Agriculture, is mentioned in paragraph 3.1.6.2.4.1. This methodologyused since 1994, started with 400 segments and then reached to 600 segments.Ministry of Agriculture (Department of Statistics) carries out two surveys per year.In December it carries out the annual survey and in July it carries out the survey onthe surface of the plant and some dairy products. The aim of these surveys is tocollect statistical data and information processing on: agricultural area used forplanting, productivity and production by the cultures and production of agriculturalcrops in volume, number of heads of livestock by type, productivity in the productionof milk and meat and live weight, etc. Also, the greenhouse survey, the outlier surveyand other data collected by village from Regional Directorate of Agriculture, areused. Hunting, forestry covers the conservation and development of forests, forexample forest plantations; logging and gathering of forest products such as berriesand mushrooms and hunting. Surveys also include data on expenses for seeds(quantity and prices), plants, and other costs of plantation, fuel, electricity, water,value of veterinary services or other services and value of material expenditures.Ministry of Agriculture also collects data for each agriculture product (weekly,monthly and annual prices), but INSTAT uses only annual average prices (collectedin annual survey) and from 2007 it uses monthly prices for estimation of quarterlyindicators.54/236
