Extension AgentWinners in the TexasAgriLife Extension ServiceRolling Plains-3 District 4-H record book contestwere selectedJuly 9 in Vernon.There were 67 juniorrecord books,84 intermediaterecord books and70 senior recordbooks scored in 39different subjectmatter areas. Juniorand intermediaterecord bookswere placed firstthrough fifth place. Doingso enables doctors to monitor stress indicators, as fetal heart rate maychange in response to conditions in the uterus. An abnormal heart ratepattern may indicate that the baby is not getting enough oxygen orother problems. Among the non-invasive tools used for this purposeare a fetoscope, a hand-held Doppler device, external electronic fetalmonitoring, and internal fetal monitoring. The choice of monitoringinstrument is largely dependent on a woman’s particular circumstancesand choice of labor management. Women with high-risk pregnancies, orwho are induced or choose epidural anesthesia, are more likely to havecontinuous fetal monitoring.A woman’s pregnancy is one of the most important times in her life.
