President Mark Butters ● President Elect/Membership Nick PisalyaputImmediate Past President Andrew MacPherson ● Vice President Michael DoyleVice President Prasert Mangkornkarn ● Secretary Dana Caron ● <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation Jon PlateFund Raising Douglas Riach ● Communications Rakesh Sodhia ● Administration Dean OutersonTreasurer Adrian Topham ● Service Projects David Record ● Sergeant-at-arms Rudy van der HoevenToday: Rangsan ThammaneewongIs Your Business Going in the Right Direction?No 340422 July 2011President Mark Butters tookthe club through a wellthought-out and informativeinsight into what the club hasto look forward to during thecoming 12 months.Beginning with excitingevents first, Mark talkedabout our upcoming 50th Anniversary,the events beingplanned, and the club historybeing up-dated. <strong>In</strong> addition,as we all know, the RI Conventionwill be here in <strong>Bangkok</strong>in May 2012, somethingwe will hear more about over thecoming months.<strong>The</strong> <strong>Rotary</strong> theme for 2011/2012 is“Reach Within to Embrace Humanity”and RI targets this year stress theimportance <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation andMembership, with an additional DistrictTarget to see as many membersas possible join the RI Convention.President Mark is already thinkingahead and has our first <strong>of</strong> two <strong>Club</strong>Assemblies scheduled for 21 October2011, to coincide with the DG’sannual visit, and the second time inthe New Year.President Mark ButtersPresident's DayMoving on, he outlinedthe roles andresponsibilities <strong>of</strong>the board members,beginning withIPP AndrewMacPherson, towhom Mark will turnfor advice and assistanceas needed.<strong>In</strong> addition, IPP Andrewhas agreed toChair the ProgrammeCommittee,which in itself isa massive undertaking.PE/Membership is Nick Pisalyaput,who in his own words has affirmedthat his goal is to find, “six new membersthis year preferably someone alittle less geriatric than we are accustomedto and someone who has agood chance <strong>of</strong> being an activelycontributing member”.This is consistent with RI targets for2011/12 which include an increase inmembership by at least one and retention<strong>of</strong> at least 85% <strong>of</strong> our existingmembers; along with two <strong>of</strong> the followingcomponents, a 2% increase inqualified younger pr<strong>of</strong>essionals(under 45), induction <strong>of</strong> one or moreRI/<strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation programmealumni or increased diversity.<strong>In</strong> response, we are targeting at least6 new members in the year and whilethere are some changes in the committee,plans include a social eveningfor potential new members (the reintroduction<strong>of</strong> new Rotarians asMeeters & Greeters and an invitationto present <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>In</strong>formation.Our two VPs are Rtn Prasert Mangkornkarnand Rtn Michael Doyle,who are both responsible for supportand advice, and are obliged to standin at meetings and major eventswhen the president is not available.Rtn Prasert will be working with theCommunication Committee and <strong>Rotary</strong>Foundation, while Rtn Michaelwill be taking on Administration andService Projects.Rtn Dana Caron, Secretary, is responsiblefor all notices and minutes<strong>of</strong> Board Meetings; to ensure all RI/District reports are filed on time, tocomplete monthly reports, to attendto all other relevant matters and toliaise with District and RI.(More on Page 3)

President Day ContinuedOur Treasurer, this year Rtn AdrianTopham, has a huge job as steward<strong>of</strong> the club’s incoming and outgoingfunds, with transactions last year havingtotaled 49 Million Baht last year.<strong>In</strong> addition, he will make certain alldues, donations and sponsorshipsare collected on time, will maintainaccurate accounts/financial recordsand tender timely reports to theBoard.<strong>The</strong> installation Dinner, our BirthdayLunch scheduled for 5 August 2011 at<strong>The</strong> Oriental, and our 50th AnniversaryDinner on 1 October at the <strong>In</strong>ter-Continental Hotel fall under the domain<strong>of</strong> Admin – Dean Outerson.<strong>In</strong> addition, we have a whole slew <strong>of</strong>events planned: <strong>In</strong>ter-club Networking,Family Christmas Dinner, PaulHarris Dinner, Family Bowling Night,a Poker Night, Family Boat Cruise,Fan Side Dinners, Bar Olympics anda trip to visit RC Royal Hua Hin.<strong>The</strong> newest member on the Board,Rakesh Sodhia, comes in as ourCommunications Director. His responsibilitiesthis year include bothdeveloping and maintaining a number<strong>of</strong> core functions and vehicles neededto ensure good communications.He will develop and maintain effectivecommunication in the print, electronicand social media so as to disseminatenews <strong>of</strong> activities, events anddevelopments to sponsors, supportersand general public.<strong>The</strong> role <strong>of</strong> <strong>Club</strong> photo librarian will beestablished and this person will developa system for storage and cataloguing<strong>of</strong> club photos over the fullyear.Finally, he will review the Yearbookand its production and come up withan alternative or measures to ensuresufficient funding and efficient production<strong>of</strong> the existing version, as well asto oversee production <strong>of</strong> the 50th anniversaryhistory bookFundraising will be overseen by RtnDougie Riach, whose core responsibilityis to ensure we have sufficientfunds for all <strong>of</strong> our projects. This yearhe will be doing this limited to twomain events due to the RI Convention,our 50 th Anniversary and to avoid“donor fatigue.”Coins on Silom will be on Friday, 4November 2011 and is targeting 1.8million and, as in the past, both sponsorshipand work force are needed.Golf will be in the New Year.Rtn Vinai has agreed to keep Cosmosfor Charity going for a sixth year andShrewsbury have confirmed their willingnessto sponsor Kids Day Out.<strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation, which is chairedby Rtn Jon Plate, deals with MatchingGrants. So far this year, we have anew proposed project for 16 watersystems with Japan already.Our target for Paul Harris Fellows is12, with quite a few already committed.PP. Narinder is in charge. Itshould be noted that <strong>of</strong> our 111 members,73 are Paul Harris Fellows,while 28 are not.Service Projects is Rtn David Record.<strong>The</strong> role <strong>of</strong> the Service Projects Committeefor RCBS is to continue ourexisting projects, as well as identify,develop and implement new educational,humanitarian, and vocationalservice projects that will help localcommunities in Thailand.Handicapped – Rtn Chris Thatcher(with PP Gary Worthington)Caulfield Library for the Blind, ThungmahamekDeaf School, RedemptoristMission, Ramintra Home for the Blind,Ban Bang Boon Aids Hospice, andany other institutions/projects dealingwith the handicapped or ill.Kids Day Out – PP John QuarmbyKids Day Out is really part <strong>of</strong> handicappedbut requires major organizationand attention and, because it ispart sponsored, has a dotted line toFund Raising as well. John attendedthe recent KDO as a Beach Supervisorand was very happy with how itran and proposes no major changes.Youth – Rtn Chip Bowness (with PPGary Worthington)Sparrow Home, Ban Nai Suan (UthaiThani), Good Shepherd Sisters andany institutions/projects dealing withyoung people.This portfolio has room for expansionwith the inclusion <strong>of</strong> orphanages andother projects.Low <strong>In</strong>come Communities with PPVince Shueh undertakes projects involvingassistance to low incomecommunities in <strong>Bangkok</strong>Vocational – PP Marcel DubbelmanThis involves assistance to educationalinstitutions or for educationalpurposes but excludes Library KitProjects and Library Fellowship.Library Kits –RtnTyrone JenkinsTo keep focus, the Library Kits projecthas been split into a separate portfolio.Water – Rtn Volker Betsch & RtnMarco CasanovaMarco will assist Volker who travelsextensively.Finally, our Sergeant at Arms – Rudyvan der Hoeven, who is to ensure theroom is set up at our regular meetings,the head table is full, microphonesand equipment work, meetingscommence on time, introducevisiting Rotarians and guests and tomaintain order during the meeting.
