The sodium chloride was doped with 36Cl,and the rate of release of the isotope into the gas phase was observed. Electricalconductivity and visible-w spectroscopy measurements were also found to correlatewith the rate of reaction. Gregg and Leach310 used 14C to observe the oxidationof chromium by labelled CO and C02 at 600-800" C. The rate of disappearanceof 14C from the gas phase was measured and the total I4C content checkedby counting the activity of the chromium specimen at the end of the experiment.3. The solid-liquid interface3.1 ADSORPTION FROM SOLUTIONAdsorption from solution is discussed by Adamson', but with emphasis onthe equilibrium aspects, rather than tlie kinetics. The subject can convenientlybe divided into adsorption of non-electrolytes and adsorption of electrolytes.
