Medical leave consists of 7 days eachyear to be used for illnesses of short duration,occasional doctor and dentist appointments,and the care of sick family members. Thisschedule is prorated if you work part-time. Up to7 days of unused medical leave may be carriedover to the following year. Short-term disabilitybenefits cover continuous absences of morethan 5 days, and long-term disability benefitscover absences of more than 6 months.Other LeaveLeave may be granted for jury duty, militaryduty, continuing education, or a death in theimmediate family.

RetirementThe Laboratory believes that planning for yourretirement is vitally important. APL will thereforecontribute to the retirement plan $2 for each$1 that you contribute, up to a maximumLaboratory contribution equal to 8% of your pay.In addition, APL will contribute an amount equalto 2.5% of your pay, regardless of your level ofparticipation. If you wish, you can elect to maketax-deferred contributions prior to becomingeligible for the Laboratory contributionseffective the beginning of the first pay periodafter your date of hire. You become eligible forLaboratory contributions after 12 months ofservice and may join the plan on the first day ofthe following pay period. You are vested in theplan immediately.The retirement plan has options designed toprovide investment flexibility, a wide range ofpayout choices, and the ability to defer taxes onall contributions and earnings.APL Federal Credit UnionThe Credit Union provides a convenient wayfor you to save or to borrow money. Savingsand loan repayments may be made by payrolldeductions. In addition, checking accounts,credit cards, automatic teller machines, anddirect payroll check deposit are available.In The ZoneThe APL In The Zone Health ImprovementProgram offers a variety of activities throughoutthe year, including health challenges, onlineseminars, and a wellness assessment.
