Chair Beverly McBrearty, Auction Chair JanineZozaya, Technology Support Specialist Sandy McGrory and Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>School</strong> Sister Mat<strong>the</strong>wAnita MacDonald, SSJ.<strong>Country</strong> <strong>Day</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sacred</strong> <strong>Heart</strong> recently completed phase two <strong>of</strong> its three-pronged iPadprogram, with <strong>the</strong> establishment <strong>of</strong> Sharon Mitsler (formerly Upper <strong>School</strong> Director) as TechnologyIntegrator and <strong>the</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> 20 additional faculty iPads, bringing <strong>the</strong> total to 38.Mitsler was established as a resource to teachers and students and to ensure <strong>the</strong> success <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> iPadProgram. In anticipation <strong>of</strong> receiving <strong>the</strong>ir iPads, 20 additional faculty members have begun <strong>the</strong> yearlongiPad training program, with iPads purchased by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sacred</strong> <strong>Heart</strong> Mo<strong>the</strong>rs' Association fromproceeds <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Win My <strong>Heart</strong> raffle that is part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> annual auction.


Faculty members will participate in 25 hours <strong>of</strong> ongoing training, which will include operations, appevaluation and integration, and best practices for teaching with iPads. This year, some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 18teachers who had received <strong>the</strong>ir iPads in phase one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> program used <strong>the</strong> iPads wirelessly inconjunction with Apple TV and projectors to create new and interesting lessons. The work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>seteachers resulted in a setup <strong>of</strong> both a student and teacher pr<strong>of</strong>ile as well as a list <strong>of</strong> required apps forPhase Two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> iPad Program.Each tenth grade student at <strong>Sacred</strong> <strong>Heart</strong> will be using an iPad in a 1:1 program in <strong>the</strong> fall <strong>of</strong> 2012.iPads will be used to take notes, access <strong>the</strong> internet, as an eReader, as a multimedia resource, and as anorganizer. The use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> iPad will increase students' ability to communicate, collaborate, analyze, andsyn<strong>the</strong>size material; <strong>the</strong>y can investigate, create, and produce more au<strong>the</strong>ntic work. Each student andone <strong>of</strong> her parents will participate in a three-hour iPad Boot Camp prior to <strong>the</strong> opening <strong>of</strong> school toensure <strong>the</strong>y know how to use and care for <strong>the</strong>ir iPad. <strong>Sacred</strong> <strong>Heart</strong> will also purchase a cart <strong>of</strong> thirtyiPads to be used by Lower and Middle <strong>School</strong> students<strong>Country</strong> <strong>Day</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sacred</strong> <strong>Heart</strong> is a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school for girls, grades PreK-12.
