Chair Beverly McBrearty, Auction Chair JanineZozaya, Technology Support Specialist Sandy McGrory and Head of School Sister MatthewAnita MacDonald, SSJ.Country Day School of the Sacred Heart recently completed phase two of its three-pronged iPadprogram, with the establishment of Sharon Mitsler (formerly Upper School Director) as TechnologyIntegrator and the purchase of 20 additional faculty iPads, bringing the total to 38.Mitsler was established as a resource to teachers and students and to ensure the success of the iPadProgram. In anticipation of receiving their iPads, 20 additional faculty members have begun the yearlongiPad training program, with iPads purchased by the Sacred Heart Mothers' Association fromproceeds of the Win My Heart raffle that is part of the annual auction.

Faculty members will participate in 25 hours of ongoing training, which will include operations, appevaluation and integration, and best practices for teaching with iPads. This year, some of the 18teachers who had received their iPads in phase one of the program used the iPads wirelessly inconjunction with Apple TV and projectors to create new and interesting lessons. The work of theseteachers resulted in a setup of both a student and teacher profile as well as a list of required apps forPhase Two of the iPad Program.Each tenth grade student at Sacred Heart will be using an iPad in a 1:1 program in the fall of 2012.iPads will be used to take notes, access the internet, as an eReader, as a multimedia resource, and as anorganizer. The use of the iPad will increase students' ability to communicate, collaborate, analyze, andsynthesize material; they can investigate, create, and produce more authentic work. Each student andone of her parents will participate in a three-hour iPad Boot Camp prior to the opening of school toensure they know how to use and care for their iPad. Sacred Heart will also purchase a cart of thirtyiPads to be used by Lower and Middle School studentsCountry Day School of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school for girls, grades PreK-12.
