Prefaceadvanced facilities were provided by <strong>IGIDR</strong>. Resourcepersons were drawn from <strong>IGIDR</strong> faculty and eminentscholar-teachers from all over India. All participantswere expected to give a short presentation and write a2000 word essay on a human development topic <strong>of</strong>their interest. The two programmes per year were heldtypically in June and November <strong>of</strong> the three years.While this programme fostered capacity for researchamong young academics and enlightenment amongcivil society groups, the well spread outreach activityprovided considerable visibility to the <strong>Institute</strong>. TheYSP series was directed and coordinated by Pr<strong>of</strong>essorShovan Ray <strong>of</strong> <strong>IGIDR</strong>.National and International Collaboration<strong>IGIDR</strong> has embarked on ambitious programmes <strong>of</strong>collaboration with several universities and institutions(national and international). Among majorcollaborating initiatives are:Erasmus Mundus Masters Programme on Law andEconomics (EMLE) and Erasmus Mundus DoctoralProgram on Law and Economics (EDLE)EMLE is a prestigious international programme towhich 100 students, preferably with a Masters degreeor four years <strong>of</strong> undergraduate degree in related areas,from all around the world (including India) areadmitted through a rigorous centralized selectionprocess. This prestigious programme has been selectedfor Erasmus Mundus label by the European Union.Several top European Universities such as University<strong>of</strong> Hamburg (Germany), Erasmus UniversityRotterdam (Netherlands), Bologna (Italy), Ghent(Belgium), Vienna (Austria), Université Paul CézanneAix/Marseille 3 at Aix-en-Provence (France), Haifa(Israel), Warsaw (Poland) and <strong>IGIDR</strong> are partners inthis edition <strong>of</strong> the program (2010-15). Successfulcandidates are awarded a degree by the consortium andinstitutions where the student undertook the coursework.Erasmus Mundus Doctoral Programme on Law andEconomics (EDLE) has also been selected for theErasmus Mundus label by the European Union.Currently, Erasmus University at Rotterdam, Bolognaand Hamburg are partners and <strong>IGIDR</strong> is an associatepartner, whereby students could spend six months toone year at <strong>IGIDR</strong>. The Erasmus Mundus facilitator forthis collaboration has been Dr. P.G. BabuLaw and Economics Training Workshop<strong>IGIDR</strong> has been organising intensive trainingprogrammes in Law and Economics from 2003onwards. As part <strong>of</strong> this, in <strong>2008</strong>, under the Asia LinkProgramme on Human Resource Development in Lawand Economics in India and Europe, short coursesrunning for a week each (10 lectures per course) onThe Regulation <strong>of</strong> Environmental Law, Law andEconomics <strong>of</strong> Property, Competition and Regulationfrom a Law and Economics Perspective, and CorporateLaw and Economics were taught by European faculty.The co-ordinator for this workshop was Dr. P.G. Babu.Collaborations with Hamburg and Bayreuth<strong>IGIDR</strong> has reaffirmed in <strong>2009</strong> its long standingMemorandum <strong>of</strong> Understanding with the University <strong>of</strong>Hamburg which is in force since 2001 forcollaborations in the area <strong>of</strong> Law and Economics. It hassigned a bilateral agreement with Universities <strong>of</strong>Amsterdam and Bayreuth for student exchangeprogrammes whereby <strong>IGIDR</strong> students could go to theseuniversities for a semester and their students couldcome to <strong>IGIDR</strong> to take courses; faculty could visit eachother to give block seminars.Collaboration with CSHThe institute signed a Memorandum <strong>of</strong> Understandingwith the Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH) in July<strong>2008</strong> to collaborate on various academic activities <strong>of</strong>mutual interest. The CSH is an autonomous academicinstitution under the dual supervision <strong>of</strong> the FrenchMinistry <strong>of</strong> Foreign and European Affairs (MAEE) andthe French National Centre for Scientific Research(CNRS). Fields <strong>of</strong> study <strong>of</strong> interest to the CSH in theSocial Sciences include Economics, Political Science,International Relations, International Law, Geography,Demography, Sociology, and Anthropology.<strong>Indira</strong> <strong>Gandhi</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> Development Researchv
