Border SurveillanceSecurity SystemsCommunications SubsystemsThe communications system integratesthe Harris Falcon ® II tactical radio networkwith standard communications interfacesto provide reliable communications thatseamlessly integrate with commercialsystems. Harris radios provide securecommunications between the shelter andindividual users and command centers, aswell as receiving alerts from the sensorfield. The Harris tactical radio networkhandles both IP data and voice traffic. Both data and voice can be routed overthe HF communications system for overthe-horizonlinks or the high capacity dataradio for line-of-sight communications. Thenetwork can also be connected to any IPtransport, such as a headquarters networkor a commercial satellite service. Voicetraffic is routed by the network into anavailable telephone connection allowingcalls to be made to and from the field forintegration with a dispatch system.Command and ControlSituational awareness software in theshelter tracks the location of every radiouser as well as the location of sensoralerts. This Common Operational Picture(COP) is displayed in the shelter and onany display remotely connected to theshelter. Imagery and ground surveillanceradar data is also fused and displayed onthe COP. The data from a number ofshelter systems can be fused on a headquartersdisplay to give an accurate viewof the border security situation.Sensors SubsystemsThe system is designed to easily connectto sensors with a standard interface, allowing for custom sensors to be chosenfor specific operations. In its standardconfiguration, the shelter provides dayand night imagery (video and still), groundradar, and remote intrusion detectors. The remote intrusion detectors can bedeployed as a combination of seismic(vibration), passive infrared and acoustic(movement), and magnet (metal) sensors. This combination significantly lowers therisk of false detection. The sensors wirelesslytransmit alerts to the shelter andindividuals who need to be informed.d SensorsCommon Operational Picture andOperator PCsGround Surveillance Radar andImagingHigh Capacity Line-of-Sight data link(HCLOS)Unattended Ground Sensors, HF & VHFCommunications, and IP/TelephonyGateway
