vSphere StorageCheck Storage Compliance for a Virtual MachineYou can check whether a virtual machine uses a compatible datastore.PrerequisitesEnsure that the virtual machine has a storage policy associated with it.Procedure1 In the vSphere Web Client, browse to the virtual machine.2 From the right-click menu, select All vCenter Actions > VM Storage Policies > Check VM StoragePolicy Compliance. The system verifies the compliance.3 Click the Summary tab for the virtual machine.4 View the compliance status in the VM Storage Policies pane.Compliance StatusCompliantNot CompliantOut of DateNot ApplicableDescriptionThe datastore that the virtual machine or virtual disk uses has the storage capabilities that arerequired by the policy. The datastore that the virtual machine or virtual disk uses does not have the storagecapabilities that are required by the policy. You can migrate the virtual machine files andvirtual disks to compliant datastores. The status indicates that the policy has been edited, but the new requirements have not beencommunicated to the datastore where the virtual machine objects reside. To communicate thechanges, reapply the policy to the objects that are out of date. This storage policy references datastore capabilities that are not supported by the datastorewhere virtual machine resides. What to do nextIf the status is Not Compliant, you can migrate the files or virtual disks to a compatible datastore. See “Finda Compatible Storage Resource for a Noncompliant Virtual Machine,” on page 202.If the status is Out of Date, reapply the policy to the objects. See “Reapply Virtual Machine Storage Policy,”on page 203.Find a Compatible Storage Resource for a Noncompliant Virtual MachineDetermine which datastore is compatible with the storage policy associated with your virtual machine.Occasionally, a storage policy assigned to a virtual machine can be in the noncompliant status. This statusindicates that the virtual machine or its disks use datastores incompatible with the policy. You can migratethe virtual machine files and virtual disks to compatible datastores.Use this task to determine which datastores satisfy the requirements of the policy.PrerequisitesVerify that the VM Storage Policy Compliance field on the virtual machine Summary tab displays the NotCompliant status.Procedure1 In the vSphere Web Client, browse to the virtual machine.202 VMware, Inc.
