vSphere StoragePDL Conditions and High AvailabilityWhen a datastore enters a Permanent Device Loss (PDL) state, High Availability (HA) can power off virtualmachines and restart them later. VMware offers advanced options to regulate the power off and restartoperations for virtual machines. In the majority of environments, default settings do not need to be changed. However, depending on your specific environment you might need to modify some of these options.Table 15‐1. Setting can be overridden for eachvirtual machine by the appropriate{scsi, ide, sata}#:#.terminateVMOnPDL or disk.terminateVMOnPDLDefaultparameter.Can be set only to TRUE or FALSE.NOTE After you make changes toVMkernel.Boot.terminateVMOnPDL,reboot the host. This option is set to TRUE by default. Itallows HA to restart virtual machines thatwere powered off while the PDL conditionwas in progress. When this option is set totrue, HA restarts all virtual machines, including those that were intentionallypowered off by a user.130 VMware, Inc.
