URBAN TRACK Issued: 12/08/2008
Quality checked and approved by project co-ordinator André Van Leuven
The Network of industries is in the process of being established and is managed by UNIFE. It
will be comprised of the four core INNOTRACK infrastructure industry partners (Corus,
Carillion, Voestalpine, Belfour Beatty), EFRTC and other small and medium sized contractors
identified.
The Network of industries is being established to bolster industry involvement in the project,
which is currently limited to one major supplier and several small-medium sized engineering
research and design companies. The network, consisting of track-work contractors, will provide
input into the project and assessment of the practicability of technologies under development. It
will also serve as a link between INNOTRACK and Urban Track projects, fostering cross-
collaboration and pursuing common approaches on specific aspects, including LCC.
Creation of the network was temporarily delayed by the Executive Committee due to concerns
over confidentiality of deliverables and the fact that only two deliverables were due at month
12. The network was approved for commencement in early 2008. Over the course of the next six
months, notice was sent out to the four core INNOTRACK partners, the EFRTC, members of the
UNIFE as well as project partners who were invited to forward the invitation onto prospective
industry participants. A list of interested industries was finalized in July 2008 and a date was
sought for the first meeting.
The first meeting has been delayed due to ongoing discussions over the composition of the
network, cooperation of consortium partners in disseminating information/results and general
issues of competition and confidentiality. It is anticipated that agreement will be reached in the
beginning of the third year (from month 25) on the issues mentioned above and the network
will commence with its first meeting in the first quarter of year 3. A joint network of industries
and operators meeting will follow.
