INTRODUCTION D0603_UITP_M24.doc TIP5-CT-2006-031312 Page 4 of 14 URBAN TRACK Issued: 12/08/2008 Quality checked and approved by project co-ordinator André Van Leuven A principal target of SP6 is to promote knowledge, stimulate debate and reach consensus - Europe wide- on the URBANTRACK concepts, methodologies, tools and recommendations developed by the project at different stages of definition throughout the entire project duration. In order to achieve these objectives, two types of networks were put in place, one of operators managed by UITP, the other of suppliers by UINFE. In order to extend the consensus building process beyond the operators who are direct Consortium members, an URBANTRACK Network of Operators of Metro and Light Rail, led by UITP, has been created. SP6 is the subproject within URBANTRACK created in order to manage this Group. To increase industry involvement, currently limited to one major supplier and a few small- medium sized companies, an URBANTRACK Network of Industries led by UNIFE, is in the process of being created. This Report presents the constitution of the Network of Operators, the results of the starting meetings, the subcontract as well as the method of work and the status of the working plan to be developed by the Networks during the project lifetime. It also presents the current status of the Network of Industries (not yet commenced), plans for meetings, proposed constitution, subcontracting details and work plan for the project’s duration.

UITP contacted several operators in order to extend the consensus building process beyond the group of public transport operators who are directly consortium members, so that numerous smaller and mid sized European operators can have a say in the process of defining URBANTRACK specifications. The Network has been constituted during the course of the first 12 months of the project. 15 operators signed a first declaration of participation in the URBANTRACK network of operators between October and November 2006: No.- Company- City/Country - Brno public transport company, Czech Republic - City of Bergen – Bergen - Norway - Centro WMPTA – Birmingham - UK - Eurolum (Veolia Transport), France - Merseytravel – Liverpool - UK - Metronapoli – Naples - Italy - Metro do Porto - Porto - Portugal - Metropolitano de Tenerife – Tenerife - Spain - Miejskie Przedsiebiorstwo Komunikacyjne w Pznaniu – Poznan - Poland - Prague Public Transport Inc Corp. – Prague - Czech Republic - TCAR – Rouen - France - Trambus – Roma - Italy - Tramwaje Warszawskie – Warsaw - Poland - De Lijn – Flandrie - Belgium - Dresdner Verkeherbetriebe AG – Dresden – Germany
