A British-designed course, with 

a clubhouse in a typical Catalan 

farmhouse built in 1841. There 

is a hotel right beside the course 

for golf addicts. The first nine 

holes, lined by pines and cork 

oaks, contrast with the back 

nine, situated on the plain with 

broad freeways leading to the 

par-5 18th hole, the final 

challenge for completing the 

round in par 70. Very enjoyable 

for all types of players, with an 

itinerary that is level but 

presents constant challenges.

CLUB DE GOLF PERALADA 

The Club de Golf Peralada, with 18 

holes and a total length of 5,990 m, 

is an ideal course for holding 

competitions of all levels or simply 

enjoying a pleasant, relaxing day. It 

is considered suitable for all players 

because its design adapts to various 

levels of play. The 18 holes are 

distributed into five par 3’s, four par 

5’s and nine par 4’s. They are divided 

into two itineraries of nine holes that 

start and finish at the clubhouse, 

the first being par 36 and the second 

par 35, making a total of par 71 for 

the whole course. 

The design of the course shows 

great respect for the environment. 

It is the first course to obtain the 

European Union’s EMAS 

Certification. It is located in the 

Peralada Resort, which also includes 

the wine cellars, the Castle, the 

Casino and, in the golf course itself, 

the Hotel Golf Peralada (5*) with its 

own Wine Spa centre, the only one 

of its kind in Spain, which is based 

on therapy with derivates of wine.

The Club Golf d'Aro-Mas Nou (Platja 

d'Aro) was one of the first golf 

courses to be established on the 

Costa Brava. 

It lies in the middle of the Gavarres 

massif, 300 metres above sea 

level and offering spectacular views 

over the famous Costa Brava. 

The course is surrounded by 

thousands of olive trees, pine 

trees, cork oaks and two large 

2,600 m3 artificial lakes that 

further enhance the charms of the 

course. 

Club Golf d'Aro is an hour and a 

half away from Barcelona and half 

an hour away from Girona. 

Club Golf d'Aro-Mas Nou was 

founded in 1990 and designed by 

the acclaimed architect Ramon 

Espinosa.

EMPORDÀ GOLF 

The Empordà Golf club is located 

in the heart of the Costa Brava. 

It was designed by the American 

course architect Robert von 

Hagge, one of the world's finest. 

The course has 36 holes divided 

into two itineraries of 18 holes. 

One, “Links”, runs between 

dunes and lakes in the style of 

the finest Scottish courses, while 

the other, “Forest”, winds 

between pine trees and lakes in 

a more Mediterranean setting.

18-hole, par-72 golf course 

situated between Pals and

This 18-hole course is varied 

and comprehensive. The first 9 

holes are technically demanding, 

with narrow fairways, vegetation 

and water (the fifth hole is on 

an island green). The second 

stretch, which is completely flat, 

is characterised by wide fairways 

with dips.

In this exceptional valley set in 

the heart of the Pyrenees, the 

architect Ramon Espinosa has 

designed a high-quality course 

combining aesthetic and

number of bunkers and water 

obstacles that can be enjoyed 

by all players, especially those 

with experience. The complex 

also contains a four-star hotel 

and the clubhouse of 2,700 m2 , 

which includes restaurant, social 

rooms, a gymnasium, a heated 

pool, saunas and a multi-sports 

zone. It also has one of most 

impressive practice areas in 

Europe, carefully studied to work 

on all types of strokes in a 

unique setting and in optimal

distances, the 18-hole Golf P&P 

Gualta course is a golfers' delight,

CULTURE 

Speaking of culture in the Costa Brava and 

the Pirineu de Girona means going back to 

the dawn of civilisation. Starting our journey 

in the very earliest of times, we find 

megalithic monuments in the Albera and 

the Gavarres hills, prehistoric caves in 

Serinyà, the ancient Iberian settlement of 

Ullastret, and Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque 

and Modernist buildings in all of the 

itineraries. Our coast was visited and 

inhabited, especially for commercial 

purposes, by the Greeks, Carthaginians 

and Romans, who not only left their imprint 

here but built towns like Empúries, where 

today we can follow the footsteps of those 

ancient visitors. From the Middle Ages we 

have exceptional works of architecture like 

the monasteries of Sant Pere de Rodes 

and Ripoll, whose stones speak to us of a 

thousand years of life and culture. 

In recent years, through the eyes of artists, 

especially the masterly Salvador Dalí, we 

have discovered a new vision of our 

surroundings, both cultural and scenic, 

portrayed in priceless creations. Today, 

the Dalí Triangle, consisting of the Dalí 

Theatre-Museum in Figueres, the Gala 

Dalí Castle-Museum in Púbol and the Dalí 

House-Museum in Portlligat, allows us to 

take this almost metaphysical journey 

through a world of tormented nature and 

idyllic, unique settings. 

Apart from the Dalí spaces, there are over 

55 museums and 550 historic buildings 

to admire. 

Defining what is or isn’t culture is a 

virtually impossible task. The relationship 

between culture and cuisine is almost 

innate, to the point that Salvador Dalí 

once said, “Art will either be edible or it 

will not exist”. The cultural side that 

cuisine represents in our society is 

experiencing a veritable renaissance, with 

such notable innovators as Ferran Adrià, 

among others. Even so, our gastronomy 

is multiple and varied, and is based on 

an honest, home style cooking that is 

very closely linked to traditional roots. If 

we spoke in the previous section about 

culture that can be seen, our cuisine

might be viewed as a culture that can be 

experienced and enjoyed. Its high 

professional standards mean that behind 

every restaurant door you will find an 

excellent culinary experience, with first- 

class establishments on the international
