SRNL-STI-2009-00571Rev. 1If the pressure differential at the site issufficient to achieve the target extractionrates (response to question is “Yes”), thenbarometric pumping might be a suitableoption at the site. As with all strategies, longtermperformance monitoring will benecessary to ensure that remedial progressis occurring in a timely and sustainablefashion. If results from performance monitoring indicate poor performance by thebarometric pumping wells, then contingency plans described in the ITRC EACOflowchart will have to be activated to ensure continued remedial progress at thesite. If the pressure differential at the site is notsufficient to produce the desirable massextraction rates (response to question is “No”),then pumping using a MicroBlower might be asuitable option. The selection of an energysource, solar or wind, for the MicroBlower willdepend on site-specific conditions. As describedin Section 4, both solar-powered and windpoweredPSVE systems have been installed atDepartment of Energy facilities with great success. As with the barometric pumping system, it will beimportant to monitor the system over the long-term to ensure that the system isperforming at the levels necessary to meet all MNA or site closure requirementswithin an acceptable timeframe.5.1.2.5 Add Selected PSVE Technology to Remedial Configuration and ContinueEvaluating Other Technologies until All Enhancement Drivers are EliminatedIf PSVE is incapable of eliminating all of the enhancement drivers, then it isimportant to continue evaluating other complementary or compatibletechnologies that could help meet MNA requirements.i. Is the Technology Sufficient to Address All the Enhancement Drivers? This decision point requires a yes/noresponse based on the original list ofenhancement drivers identified for thesite. If the response is a “Yes”, then theflowchart directs the user to approveand implement the selected PSVEtechnology. Following this, theflowchart directs the user to Section ii43 Enhanced Attenuation TechnologiesPassive Soil Vapor Extraction
