Breakthrough for08student governanceTwo events represented a majorbreakthrough for student governanceand transformation. InJune the UFS Council unanimously approvedthe establishment of a CentralStudents’ Representative Council for thethree campuses, as well as a new SRCconstitution for the Main Campus inBloemfontein. The establishment of theCentral SRC should speed up the integrationprocess of the campuses.The SRC elections which followed inAugust, were conducted peacefully andsuccessfully on all three campuses.Central SRC establishedThe need to establish a Central Students’Representative Council (CSRC) followedthe incorporation of the Qwaqwa andVista Bloemfontein Campuses in 2003and 2004 respectively. The CSRC includesrepresentatives of all three campuses.The constitution of the CSRC wasthe outcome of consensus reached betweenthe SRCs of these three campuses,indirectly involving diverse student formationssuch as Sasco, ANCYL, YCL,Pasma, Saso, Sadesmo, Azasco, SCO,Here XVII, KovsieAlliance and ACDP.With the establishment of a CentralSRC, the UFS has adopted a federal studentgovernance model whereby theCSRC is the highest representative studentbody on matters of common concernfor all students.
